About the Author:
Ron D. Voigts lives in Raleigh, NC and sometimes somewhere else. When back in Raleigh, he enjoys time with his family, watches old movies and shoots lots of pool. He has his own private writer’s retreat in La Vale, MD where he spends lots of time working on his next novel while enjoying the mountains and eating ice cream.
Mr. Ron said, “Penelope, how would you like to write something for a blog?” Only thing is I’m not sure what to write about. I mean I’m just a kid who goes to school, has friends and nothing really special ever happens to me. Well, maybe that’s not entirely true.
My school is in the old Windorf Hotel that was converted to a prep school for 100 kids. Old man Windorf was kinda strange. The front lobby has a fountain in the middle of it with three stone fish spitting water. The hallways upstairs have green carpet with red and yellow bull’s eyes in front of each doorway. Brass sconces shaped like hands holding torches light the hallways, only with light bulbs instead of flames. The coolest things about the school are the secret passages. Some of them go to really interesting places.
The teachers at the school are kinda different too. Professor Gray looks like a vampire, except he’s old enough to be a grandfather. Professor Short always wears green, and he keeps making smoke and weird smells in the chemistry lab. Someday something is going to explode. Oh, there’s also Principal Merriweather who doesn’t like me and keeps trying to find reasons to expel me. So far, I’ve avoided that and still go to school there.
My best friends are Sandy and Deedee. We share a room. There are only supposed to be two kids to a room, but after I slept a few nights in the janitor closet they thought it would be better for me to be in a regular room. My worse enemies are Laura Ainsley Fulton and her two cronies, Butch and Taffy. Laura is a real snob, and they try to find ways to make me mad or get in me in trouble.
You can read all about this stuff in Penelope and The Ghost’s Treasure. But the real reason I’m writing this blog is to tell you about my latest book, Penelope and The Movie Star. This movie company came to my school to shoot a motion picture using the old hotel as background. Well, students were told to stay away from the people shooting the movie or they’d get in big trouble. I won’t tell you how, but I got stuck hiding on the movie set, which wasn’t really my fault. Honest! Something bad happened. Somebody got killed and I was only ten feet away. It was supposed to look like an accident but it wasn’t. Everyone thinks I saw something, even though I closed my eyes when it happened. The big problem is the killer also thinks I saw something.
That’s about all I can tell you. If you want to read more, it’s in my latest book, Penelope and The Movie Star. I better get going before I get in trouble again. Bye!
