The echoes of a war four years’ past still resounds in the minds of those who endured it. Jaden longs to search for his sister, though he is bound in the fetters of slavery. When he is given to the very man who conquered his country, he is caught up in his own hatred, yet fascinated by the mystery of his new master, the Emperor of Tranaden, who all say is demonic, without mercy. Trapped in the snare of his master’s beauty, Jaden begins to realize that there is much more beneath the surface…
Dersai is Emperor to his fingertips, he is used to command and being obeyed. He will sacrifice anything to see his country safe. Beneath, he is well read, highly intelligent and far sighted in how he views others. Yet, Dersai has an inner demon, a demon that kept his kingdom free and safe from conquerors; only in his dreams can he imagine one strong enough to love him. Now his slave may be the only one who can set him free.

World Building: Interesting, but not overly detailed. We have a high fantasy sort of world, kingdoms, war, slave trade, curses and a demon.
Characters: Jaden was cool but he didn’t reach me a lot. I was sympathetic to his situation of course, but we didn’t much connect beyond that. When Dersai showed up their chemistry really won me over, and as a character I think I found Dersai more interesting and charismatic. But them, as a couple, I really liked.
Plot: Fun but not overly attractive for me, as you guys know, I’m not that much into the epic fantasy sort of world or story. I was in it for the smokin’ chemistry more then for the story in itself.
Writing: As other works of the author from the time, it has an epic feel to the tone of writing, and I’m not much into that sort of thing. It was ok but I wasn’t really blown away. The whole wolf thing, I was expecting some werewolf going on in there, but I didn’t really get any of that.
Curb Appeal: Definite plus, the cover. It got me on board matched with that title. It proved to be a bit misleading, in that I was counting on some werewolf action going on, but there wasn’t much of it if any.
All in all, fun read but not my favorite by the author. Still top of my picks, the third title in the Gaven series.
