A summer in New Orleans is exactly what Allie needs before starting college. Accepting her dad’s invitation to work at his hotel offers an escape from her ex-boyfriend and the chance to spend the summer with her best friend. Meeting a guy is the last thing on her mind—until she sees Levi.
Unable to resist the infuriating yet alluring Levi, Allie finds herself at the center of a supernatural society and forced to decide between following the path she has always trusted or saving a city that might just save her.

World Building: Interesting, I loved the idea of the Pterons and their whole world hierarchy, and I especially liked the idea of the New Orleans setting. It was fun to follow, the world of the novel is exciting but I’m wanting more exploring of it, probably to come in future books in the series. I hope.
Characters: A bit quirky, like Allie is this ‘fit stuff in neat boxes’ type as far people close to her are concerned but she throws herself into this whole Pteron thing almost without missing a beat, or she comes down to New Orleans with Jess because she doesn’t want to be on her own but then she’s ok on her own, a growing up/maturing process I guess. She goes feisty some on Levi, the male interest, but she’s going along even with wings. I dunno, confusing a bit, but maybe that was the point, she’s at this age when she’s maybe defining herself in her own mind and trying to find her vibe, I guess.
Levi was all smexy and hot and caveman-ish enough, which is good as far as I’m concerned, but his decision-making process is sort of in the psycho area of the spectrum…he didn’t really charm and their chemistry wasn’t very gripping for me, sadly. But the relationship had an interesting spin, I mean how things evolved.
Plot: Sort of fun, I mean it was partly exciting and partly not very elaborate, we’re talking a lot of focus on the romance and little else going on. Amazingly, I found myself wishing for something a bit more going on, something more complex and gripping, but maybe that had to do with the fact the couple chemistry didn’t prove exciting to me, if it had, I would have loved the focus I’m sure.
Writing: Cool, it worked with the tone of everything else. It’s a first person narrative from Allie’s POV, with more focus on dialogue then settings building. I personally like some more imagery to go with all the arcs, but it’s a purely personal take. The dialogue works, the story telling flows well and it has a lively pace.
Curb Appeal: Big hit, actually. That cover is simply amazing, I was sold on it from first glance. The blurb sounded interesting too, but I confess I would have dived in just for the cover, I’m a coverslut like that 😀
Q: What did you expect your summer in New Orleans to be like?
I expected to hang out with my best friend Jess, make a little bit of money, and experience a new city. I’d always heard New Orleans was a lot of fun, and I was ready to try something different.
Q: What first attracted you to Levi?
It was definitely a physical thing at first. He’s tall, muscular, and has these amazing gray-blue eyes.
Q: What is your favorite thing to do in New Orleans?
That’s a tough one. I love almost everything about the city, but I think my absolute favorite thing to do is to go out and listen to good music.
Q: I know you’re starting college soon, what are you most excited about?
I’m excited to get out on my own. My mom’s awesome, but I’m so ready to live on a college campus and experience a new life.
Q: How would you describe Levi in Three words?
Infuriating, sexy, and mysterious.
