  • Jessa is one healing away from death. Under the thrall of her gift, the Court’s Senior Healer risks giving her life in exchange for her patient’s.

Vale is a rebel ruler. When his brother is killed, he’s given the throne and the decree from the Court to produce an heir or lose his family’s hold on the land–and his deceiving advisors aren’t afraid to use murder as a weapon if their directive to stay away from the Senior Healer goes unheeded.
But Vale burns to possess Jessa. The heat between them leaves a wake of smoke, and even the powerful forces above want to bind them in a union that lasts forever. Vale taking another would be a betrayal neither could survive.
Their enemies fear a child born of such a powerful Healer and Warrior, but the true threat lies in the bond forged in shadows and fused in fire.

    1. Would you please tell our readers who haven’t read your books yet a few things about the world of the Shadowed Love series?

The Shadow Shifters use the shadows of their Ancestor gods to shift at high speeds. The realm is full of passion, gloom, scandal, and adventure. If you love romance, this series might be a great fit for you.

    2. What inspired the Shadows world?

I love paranormal romance, but I wanted to write something a little different than I’d been reading. I took a whiteboard and outlined a whole realm based on my fascination with royalty, the shadows, and forbidden romances. Everything started from there.

    3. The series currently has two books, can we expect more?

There will be three books total. I’m working on getting the third book to my Editor right now. It’s tentatively scheduled for an April 2013 release.

    4. Which character did you enjoy writing more, Vale or Caleb? Why?

I’ll always love Vale because he’s my first published hero. But Caleb was special in a lot of ways. He went through so many hardships. I wanted to do his story justice. I hope I did.

    5. Would you say Jessa and Vale have a different sort of chemistry then Tabitha and Caleb? How so?

They definitely have different kinds of chemistry. And different types of relationships. Tabitha and Caleb have a destined mate bond, but the conflict plays out in how they each deal with that connection. They’re completely different people and the story is really about if they can bridge the gap of their cultures and fall in love for real, beyond the pull of destiny. I think of Jessa and Vale as very well suited. It took them a long time to see it, but they’re such a unique balance. It’s a great example of how love doesn’t always make sense, but when it’s right, it’s right.

    6. Which one of the two novels was easier to write? Was there a difference for you in the writing process between them?

They both had their own challenges. I rewrote the second book three times from scratch. The first book went through years of revisions. And the third book is currently driving me insane. So I guess they’re all fighting to be the most difficult. Haha. But really, I love the journey because it takes me to the place the books end up. Every book is a new adventure.

    7. Would you say writing these books changed you? How so?

Absolutely! I’m constantly on the lookout now for new ideas and worldviews. I want to experience the different aspects of life and discover new cultures. I’ve always been fascinated with people. Writing gave me a way to channel that and understand why I had such peculiar habits growing up like always asking other teenagers for their life stories. I chose the most interesting people as my friends and everyone thought that was very odd for high school. Everything makes sense now in adulthood though. Phew. I was getting a little nervous there, that there would be no explanation for my strangeness.

    8. Aside the two novels, there’s also a prequel novella out. Would you say reading it before the novels is essential to the stories?

There’s no need to read the prequel novella first. I try to write all my stories so they can stand alone. The prequel novella came about because readers wanted to know how the Shadow Shifters entered the realm. And I loved Ella, the heroine, so much, I wanted to tell her story and show how she saved their people during a time when people didn’t look to the woman to be the savior.

    9. What would you like your readers to walk away with after reading these books?

I hope they laugh, sigh, maybe even cry in a good way. I hope readers connect to the characters and get swept away on the journey. If I’m not eliciting emotions that make readers come back for more, I’m not doing my job. I’m always working at being a better storyteller.

    10. And the question you knew was coming: give us something to look forward to. What are you working on now, what can we expect to read from you next?

I’m working on the third book in the trilogy right now. Ari and Reid’s story. Also, I just released my first story in a new series this month. Excuse My Fairy is the first book in the Misbehaving Magics series. I’m hoping people like the sassier, inappropriate humor so I can write more like them! The tagline is: Her magic breaks all the rules. He breaks all of hers.
