  • Magda Lazarus has twice come back from the dead to fight the Nazis’ devastating conquest of Poland. To prevent the Holocaust her sister has seen in terrible visions, Magda will need the Heaven Sapphire, a gem powerful enough to defeat even the demon Asmodel. With the future of all Europe in the balance, Magda and her husband, the fallen angel Raziel, begin a perilous journey to the Caucasus, the resting place of the fabled stone.
    Surrounded by Germans, Russians, and mistrustful Azerbaijani tribesmen, Magda must summon all her magic to withstand the predations of the deadly supernatural foes. But more dangerous yet is the power of the Sapphire itself, which could stop Hitler…or destroy Magda.
    Rebel Angels, the climactic book of Michele Lang’s Lady Lazarus trilogy, filled with suspense, magic, and action, will have readers at the edge of their seats until the exciting conclusion.

    Meet the Villains of the LADY LAZARUS trilogy

    Guest post by Michele Lang

    The LADY LAZARUS trilogy begins in 1939 in Budapest, on the eve of World War II. The intense setting brings out both the evil and the valor in the witches, demons, and fallen angels who know the war is coming.

    Like diamonds, heroes are forged under pressure. But so are villains. Much as I love Magda Lazarus, the witch at the center of LADY LAZARUS, and Raziel, her guardian angel, I also have a special place in my heart for the evil villains in the book.

    In many ways, they are the shadow reflections of the witch and the angel. You have an ancient wizard, the Staff, who is hell-bent on claiming the power of the Book of Raziel for himself. You have captive demonesses, murderous and intent on gaining their freedom at any cost.

    These villains’ quest for power mirrors Magda’s drive to save her family from destruction, and Raziel’s temptation is reflected in the lusts and obsessions of Asmodel, an ancient fallen angel who knows Raziel far too well.

    As the trilogy goes on, the villains get stronger and stronger. In book two, DARK VICTORY, Asmodel commands a supernatural army of nasties that include valkyrie who fly with the planes that attack Poland in the great blitzkrieg, and icy SS werewolves. Their leader is Krueger, an alpha wolf of the Great Eastern Werewolf Pack in Poland.

    In book three, REBEL ANGELS, the most terrifying villain of all has no magic whatsoever. The Professor, devoid of magic himself, seeks to dissect and destroy any magical creature who comes within his grasp. And his science of anti-magic proves a potent threat against Magda, her witch’s lore, and everything she believes in and is fighting for.

    I love the sheer nastiness of some of these antagonists in the LADY LAZARUS trilogy. They will stop at nothing to get what they want, and though some of them haunt my worst nightmares, I can’t help but admire their single-minded determination to thwart my heroes.

    I hope you enjoy reading the LADY LAZARUS trilogy: LADY LAZARUS, DARK VICTORY, and REBEL ANGELS!

    {Livia says: I LOVE villains in stories, so I’m evilly delighted this guest post talks about them 😀 *Insert evil laughter* The SS part isn’t something I like, but it is part of history so there you have it. These parts shouldn’t be forgotten or not mentioned, it’s the mistakes one forgets about that one might end up making all over again. So don’t shy away from sensitive topics of history, if they’re present in all of our minds they’re more likely to keep new monsters asleep.}
