Ever since her mother died while serving time for a murder she didn’t commit, Bell’s been focused on one thing: revenge. She knows her mother was set up by the powerful Gable family, international bankers who will crush anyone for profit, or amusement. Now she’s determined to take the Gables down.
Seducing her way into the life–and bed–of the family’s rebellious youngest son, Lander, she figures it should be easy to uncover the secrets she needs to destroy his family. But Lander turns out to be more complicated than Bell expected. He’s intelligent, mysterious–and their sexual chemistry is off the charts. Lander is still the target, but once Bell gives in to her desire to touch him, he starts seeming much less like an enemy–which is why her anger is more necessary than ever.
Worldbuilding: The Upper East/West Side world of the rich and screwed up meets the world of poorer yet infinitely resourceful regular people in a mix of lies, injustice and revenge.
Characters: Bell is the type of chick you don’t want to mess with. Though she’s good at heart (I think), what happened to her and her mom has left a serious mark on her. But she’s not one to suffer silently, she’s all about getting even. The question could be asked, what does she become by getting even the way she does or tries to, but I’ll leave that for you guys to decide on. For me, she makes awesome reading material, she’s fun, witty, determined and despite the somewhat convoluted route to it, she’s going after justice.
Lander is exactly the charismatic, smart, educated, irresistible sort of alpha you’d expect to read about in this kind of world, and boy does he deliver. I loved the man as soon as he stepped into the story, so to speak, and as things evolved I loved him more and more. In fact, he’s my favorite character in this story and I’m not ashamed to say I’m rooting for him like whoa.
Plot: The story is captivating, all kinds of tension going on and a rapid pace of events though without agitated action (this is romance, thank God!). Though I just read part 1 so far, I’m entirely engrossed in the story and cannot wait to read more.
Writing: Fabulous first person narrative from Bell’s POV. The character has such a vivid, authentic voice it just crawls under your skin and seduces you from page one. Serious awesomesauce writing right here.
Curb Appeal: Awesome cover, hooking blurb, and of course author name made of win – serials might annoy some of us, but we already know Kyra Davis so delivers!
All in all, I thought this was a fabulous read, exciting, seriously awesome writing and kickass heroine with a unique voice, and an alpha hero you’ll wanna lick all over 😀 If you don’t like waiting for parts of serials to get out, preodrer the whole thing now and just wait to read it all in one go, because if this first part is any indication this is one kickass read that you won’t wanna miss out on!
