How far will she go to hold on to her family home?
When Allie Campbell’s father loses their home to British tycoon Trevor Blake, she pleads for more time to pay off the loan. But Trevor refuses to acknowledge his own family, so he’s completely unconcerned with hers. Allie impulsively offers to do anything to keep the house, so he teasingly tells her to move in with him and cater to his every need. To his amazement, she agrees…
Worldbuilding: There’s a certain charm to all Vegas stories, I think. It’s all that possibility of sinning and parallel reality, somehow, right? Though this a story that happens in Vegas, the gambling factor comes in not in the form of casinos 😀 And goddamn yeeey for that!
Characters: Allie won me over from the get-go. She was just this loyal, hard-working, responsible young woman who stepped in and did what she felt everyone needed of her once her mother passed away.
I also wanted to throttle her useless father, by the way, from the get-go, and kept wanting to get that done more and more as the story progress – a feeling that culminated when he started to get his jollies on. After Allie’s mom died of cancer, she pretty much became the pillar of support for the whole family, while her father wallowed in his sorrow, lost their goddamn house and proceeded to then find solace in the sweaty arms (well, okay, maybe she wasn’t sweaty, but I still wanted to b!tch-slap her silly) of some new lady. I get moving on and all, but I don’t get being an ass about it, especially not to your kids. Lame excuse of a parent. Anyway, moving on…
So having that kind of father, two sisters to look out for, one of which was hellbent on not allowing her, Allie found herself taking desperate measures to not lose their family home.
At which point Trevor makes a glorious appearance. Sigh, Trevor… brooding, snappy, cynical, at times mean to downright evil, hot, hot, hot Trevor…I mean, can you wish for anything more?
Allie and Trevor had explosive chemistry pretty much from the first second they met, and it only developed and grew into a pretty much irresistible connection. The banter and solid one-liners had me giggling and laughing out loud quite a bit of the read, and I totally fell in love with them as a couple. Not to mention they had uber hot one on one, always a plus 😀
Plot: The story was fun, though I can’t say there’s a whirlwind of action outside of the actual romance, brooding, beast-like tycoon who falls for the hot girl-next-door trope. I wouldn’t have had it any other way, and I gobbled the read up in one go.
Writing: Third person, past tense narrative, his and her POV. I loved Trevor’s English accent and Allie’s voice.
Curb Appeal: Great cover, hooking blurb, definite, definite impulsive buy material – and it’s so worth your time to give it a shot 😀
All in all, this was a great, super fun, super hot read, and if you’re into brooding tycoons, spectacular chemistry, lots of lol-time lines and feisty heroines, you should definitely give this a try!
