This is an absolutely perfect steamy summer read for your naughty pleasure. Three erotic short stories, all centering around the same female lead.

It was light-hearted and sinfully sexy. There might be one or two themes which might be objectionable to to some readers – one story deals with swingers, another mentions some infidelity…

But overall it was a fun read!

Each story was different, and they call came together to present a variety of erotic delights.
I’m looking forward to reading Fierce & Fabulous Volume Two when it comes out!

Q&A with Kitty Mulholland

If you were to describe your book in only one word, what would it be?
Beginning.

What would you say inspired you to write it?
Erotica was the first thing I started writing. It’s where my soul wants to be. I write from my own experiences, closing my eyes and remembering people, places and situations and adding a little extra spice to make them into a good horny story which is, I hope, arousing to the reader.

How much of yourself do you see in the character Leah?
Leah is an extension of me really. Some of the things she gets up to I wouldn’t be brave enough to explore, but some things are based on real experiences of mine. There are embellishments though, of course! (Personally, I have never had sex in a sauna. I think I’d pass out!)

What was your first Erotica reading experience?
It was a wonderful book called “The Butcher, The Baker, The Candlestick Maker” by Suzanne Portnoy. Funnily enough, I read it as my own husband and I were separating, so I could relate to a great deal of her character’s own feelings about fading attraction in a marriage and how she decides to pick herself up and get back into the dating game.

Your all time favorite book?
Oh, such a difficult question. It changes every day, I’m sure! I’m going to go with “A Tale of Two Cities” by Charles Dickens.

What made you pick that one above all others?
It’s a story of love despite external forces working against you. It’s about making the greatest sacrifice for someone you truly love. It’s about showing courage during a crisis. It moves me every time.

What’s the longest time you’ve spent working on a project?
The first book is a culmination of over a year’s work, fine-tuning my writing style to get to a point where I felt confident enough to have my work exposed to the world at large.

Would you say becoming an author has changed you? In what way?
Oh, very much so. I didn’t realize how much potential I had inside me, screaming to get out. I just wasn’t listening to what was inside of me.. Now, I feel as though I have given a voice to a wild, untamed part of myself.

Was there ever a time, during your work for the book, when you felt like giving up?
Oh, yes. I expect that’s true for every author. A friend of mine told me that she knows when she’s ready to publish something because that’s when she also feel totally fed up with the damn thing.

What made you change your mind?
All my life, I’ve never been good at finishing things. I’m good at starting projects of all sorts, but not very good at bringing things to a conclusion. I wanted my writing to be different. I wanted to prove to myself I could finish something.

What does your day-to-day life consist of? What else do you do, aside writing?
In my day job, I’m a project engineer for an automotive manufacturer. Completely different from writing! It’s often long hours, which is frustrating and doesn’t allow me write as much as I would like, but it does keep my feet on the ground and, obviously, pays the bills.

How do you deal with bad reviews or acid criticism? What would you advise other authors to that effect?
I’ve been very lucky so far, in that I have not received any bad reviews. However, I know that time will come at some point and I shall have to address it. I would hope to be mature about it. After all, we are all different creatures. Some people may be offended by some of the themes which I address in my stories. It’s not going to be to everyone’s taste. But, you know what, that’s fine. Also, I’d like to say that I’m always open to constructive criticism. I’m a relative newbie to the world of writing and I still have a great deal to learn.

Without giving us spoilers, of course, what can we expect from the next books in the Fierce & Fabulous series?
Volume Two is well under way. There’s more horniness from Leah as she starts taking more risks and becoming more daring. Her journey is certainly taking a more exciting route! I seem to have lots of material in my head still, so there will definitely be a volume three and maybe even a fourth book in the series. Basically, I shall keep writing them as long as people are enjoying them.

What do you have stored for us in the future? What are you working on/planning on next, aside this title/series?
I’m working on an erotic paranormal romance novel, the first draft of which is almost finished. It’s a story that’s been in my head for some years but never seen the light of day until recently.

What made you decide to become an Indie Author?
I think the explosion of social media and e-reading devices has been a godsend to writers, especially in the erotica genre. My perception of the traditional publishing houses is that they are still somewhat reluctant to take on erotica, so I felt it was the quickest way to get my work out there to the waiting public. I’m not a patient person by nature, I’m afraid!

What would you say was the toughest part?
Once I’d said to my formatting guy, “There you go, it’s ready!” my stomach flipped. I felt so nervous. I was baring myself to the soul. I was terrified no one would like the book. I felt physically sick with nerves for a while until the sales started rolling in, then it was a huge relief. I suspect this will not change for the second book. Nor the third, fourth or fifth either!

Did you hire professionals for editing, cover design, formatting?
Yes, I did. Partly because I wanted to get the book out there but didn’t have the skills to do the formatting myself. I also have a friend who writes in the erotica genre and we do an author swap now and then to edit each other’s work. She is a saint!

How did you decide who to hire, if you worked with pros?
I’m lucky enough to be part of a lovely network of writers here in the UK. We meet up annually at the Swanwick Writers Summer School to swap tips, follow short courses and generally gossip about who’s doing what. It was at one of these events that I met a friend who recommended the company I used. We have built up a sounds relationship and I shall be using them to publish all the books in the Fierce & Fabulous series.

How long did the production part take, from the moment you began working on the manuscript to self-pub to when you hit ‘Publish’?
It took much longer than I expected, probably about eight months altogether.

Where is your work being distributed, Amazon, B&N, Smashwords, AllRomanceEbooks/Omnilit, some other distributor? How did you decide which one(s) to go with?
At the moment, it’s only available on Amazon. However, as the series grows, I would envisage the books being available elsewhere. I would recommend you stay tuned to my Twitter and/or Facebook pages for news.

If you could turn back in time and do things differently, would you? What would you change?
I’m a dreadful procrastinator. The number of times I sit down to write, then realize I need to put some laundry in the machine, cook dinner, tidy the house, etc. etc. but never actually get round to putting pen to paper, it’s awful. So, I am slowly learning how to manage my time and keep to my own targets but it’s not easy. I get very easily distracted.

Fun Facts

If you could wish for any one thing, and it would immediately come true, what would you wish for?
True love

If you were stranded on an isolated island, what’s the one book you’d absolutely wish to have with you?
My journal. It’s fascinating to realise how much you change as a person over a period of time. It also has empty pages which I could fill myself while sitting on that deserted island.

Name your favorite fruit.
Strawberries

Coffee or tea?
Don’t like either. Hot chocolate though, I could drink that all day…

Favorite season?
Summer. People wear less clothes. Mmmm…

How about favorite time of the day?
Early morning. I’m a bit of lark.I get up around 5.30am every day. I love to hear the birds singing before the world rises.

Were you a boyscout/girlscout?
Yes.

Favorite food for breakfast?
Smoked salmon with scrambled eggs. It’s my weekend treat.

Latest book you’ve bought and read?
I’m currently reading “Cat’s Eye” by Margaret Atwood. I’m a big fan of hers. Next on the list is “Jesus Christ and the Broken Microwave” by Tim Dewhurst. I bought it purely because the title sounds hilarious and after the thought-provoking Atwood, I think I shall be glad of some light relief.

Do you collect things, like stamps, or key chains, or shoes?
Bookmarks. Red leather ones, to be precise. I’ve collected them from tourist attractions since I was a little girl. I have about fifty so far.

Favorite color, you know you want to tell us!
Purple

Drama or comedy?
Comedy. We don’t laugh nearly enough in Western culture these days.

Cats or dogs?
Cats, always. You have to earn affection from a cat. They don’t give it freely; you must be assessed. Only when you’re deemed worthy, do you have your affection returned. This sets us a great example. I often think if we were a bit more discerning with the way we trust our fellow humans, we’d live happier lives.

Dinner by candlelight or a night out clubbing?
Depends on the person. Dinner is more intimate, perhaps on a date with someone I love. Clubbing has its place too though, with friends though usually.

Do you have a guilty pleasure?
Chocolate ice cream.

Favorite Swear Word?
“Fuck.” It’s so versatile. It comes up in my day job with an alarming regularity, and also in some of my writing, but with very different applications.
