This is Rissa introducing the brand new YA and NA focused Sunday feature, Blossoms & Flutters!
There’s a fine line between love and hate, so fine that you don’t know you’ve lost balance until it’s too late.
I’m not sure exactly when I lost my balance, all I know is that he was to blame.
The boy who’d spent most of his life hating me for reasons I never understood.
** ** ** ** ** **
It was no secret that I hated her, but only I knew why.
She was off-limits.
And then our separate worlds collided with one tragedy.
It wasn’t her fault, I knew that, but I wanted her to hurt the way I did, and I needed someone to blame. She was an easy target.
The girl I’d picked on all our lives.
And the woman I barely tolerated.
Until the line between love and hate was no longer visible…
Whoo! That was such a good novel! I haven’t seen that much love hate since Bully by Penelope Douglas but damn this novel is right up there with it. Definitely, an add to your love hate, to read category! This book grabs you from beginning to end. It is completely a love hate relationship. Even dipping into the bullying category quite a bit, but it still made for an amazing read!
Did Dane ever think he would come to like or even, dare I say, love the girl he tortured growing up? Did Kennedy ever expect anything more from the boy that was the epitome of her nightmares? Their story is one that reminds people even the prettiest rose comes from the dirt. Filled with love, lust, hate, and heartache, it is a whirlwind affair.
“Once-in-a-lifetime kind of love that had stemmed from a lifetime of hate.”
Set in a university backdrop, it provides the perfect situations for: in your business roomies, using parties as excuses to dress salaciously, and scandalous behavior! I loved that the secondary characters (their friends) had their own stories that went along with the main couple. It didn’t distract from the story as a whole but in my opinion made it more real like and overall a more interesting read.
Although, Dane most definitely, for pretty much the whole book, takes the asshole award. The hate between Dane and Kennedy basically stems from an ages old family feud. Like Romeo and Juliet! Except this Romeo looks like a total douche bag. But damn if he doesn’t have some best book boyfriend moments throughout the story.
On the other hand holy moley. The sexual tension man…that shit was off the charts hot and fantastic!! And wink wink, nudge nudge, hint hint, someone’s got a piercing 😉 Seriously you’re going to have to have a change of panties so don’t leave your house with this book! The hate sex and dirty talking was phenomenal!!
I was so happy that this story had dual points of view. It made it so much more enjoyable than if only one character had a voice. The glimpse in to each character really helped you connect with them. Kennedy’s immediate family life was just nonexistent. It really made my heart ache for her. I loved that she has a strong support system of friends and it doesn’t hurt that her bestie, Jade, was funny as hell too.
The climax after everything; the bullying, the hate, and the sex, was so explosive in such an understated way oh man…the feels just killed me…there where absolutely, a few ugly cry moments! But damn, the angst filled downward spiral towards the end of the book was just TOO MUCH! It was like bam!!! bam! bam!! bam! There was hard loving and even harder, harsher words. But thankfully the magnificent author believes all things should have HEAs so all was right in the end. 😀
All in all this story takes you on a ride and I really, really wish I didn’t have to get off. The blurb and the cover pulled me in and I’m so glad that I got the chance to experience it first hand!
