D N F
Once a submissive, always a submissive, right? Maybe she needs a little reminder.
Frankie Hamilton is stunned when her husband, Jake, gives her an ultimatum—either she goes with him to a country hotel for the weekend or he’ll leave her. In an attempt to save her troubled marriage she agrees to go.
But Dominion is no ordinary hotel. During the week it’s an upmarket conference center, but at weekends it becomes an exclusive BDSM hotel. This particular weekend it’s Vanilla Spice, where those new or returning to BDSM can explore their fantasies in a safe and decadent environment.
When Jake asks her to submit one more time, Frankie is initially outraged. After all, it’s been two years since their D/s dynamic ended and she’s no longer a submissive. Is she? She still loves Jake and doesn’t want to lose him so she agrees, even if it’s just to prove that she’s now as vanilla as the ice cream in their freezer.
But Frankie is soon reminded of how delicious it feels to kneel at her Master’s feet. Her fondness for punishment and a good spanking leaves her begging for more. And when their old friend and owner of Dominion, Marco Alessi, offers to use her as the subject for a rope demo she’s finally forced to face up to her kinky needs.
But that’s not the only thing she has to come to terms with. Beneath her tough exterior lies a grief that has been buried for two years. As her submission starts to melt the icy core inside her heart, it sets off a chain of events and emotions that could either make her marriage stronger than ever or completely destroy it.
Reader Advisory: This book contains scenes of anal sex, mild breathplay and public humiliation. There are MFM scenes and references to FF intimacy.
I was part of a book tour for this title last month. As you know, my policy with titles for review as part of book tour, when it’s a less than 3 butterflies, I post my thoughts on the title sometime later and not during the actual tour.
To be honest, when I got the title, that little nifty warning you see there in the blurb wasn’t there. I mean the MFM one. Though I found out it was a MFM, I did after I’d agreed to give it a try, and thought “Let’s just give this a try, who knows?”
I mean, I am all for kinkery, though lately I’ve been in a kinkery funk, to be honest. And Contemporary Romance funk, big time.
It was certainly different from what I tend to read on a couple of basis. This was a story about rekindling a romance in an established couple. It’s a trope I almost never read, because my thing is the getting together part of romance reads, not the being together part. Yes, I know, very telling, shut up 😛 The other thing I never read is 3some in any capacity, sex session or romantic entanglement. And when into BDSM reading mood, I never enjoy the Dungeon setting, with public display of anything. I guess it ties in with the 3some thing too. I’m open-minded and to each their own, for sure, but it just doesn’t help with my jollies, lol.
But I thought, okay, I tend to avoid these kinds of stories, on 3 trope accounts, lol. Let’s go nuts and just do it, lol. Well, I did it. It didn’t work out.
Don’t get me wrong, if you are into 3some kinkery, established relationship rekindling and the Dungeon kind of BDSM feel, then this is for you. The writing flows smoothly, the characters were likable though I can’t say I liked one of them particularly well, there’s plenty of kinkery without becoming too much, and there’s a healthy dose of diversity. All good things to those who like the main tropes though, it must be said. However hard I tried, I just couldn’t get into the story because my mind just kept hitting the brakes on either one of the 3 main tropes, pretty much. At some point, I just called full-halt.
So I say give it a try if any of the 3 tropes is your thing. For me, it simply didn’t work out.
