Lily has been the Shattered City’s most dangerous prisoner for almost her entire life. The werewolf Ian is one of her jailers, a member of the City’s elite Guardians. She wants out, and it’s his job to keep her confined.
But now these natural enemies are on the run together, fighting their attraction to one another even as they flee an army of demons—demons who must not capture her at any cost. Lily is the last vampire in the world, and the demons would use her blood to create an unending vampire horde.
Lily will do anything to keep her cursed species from rising again, even put her trust in Ian. And to save the City he loves, and keep Lily from eternal enslavement, Ian would lay down his life.
This is a 70,000 word paranormal romance with some steamy content.
Worldbuilding: This story was pretty unique in the fact that it had a floating city. It was a place where many paranormal and magical relics and beings were kept/stayed. Most of the paranormal beings the story touched on where werewolves, demons, and vampires. A couple other ones that were mentioned were dragons and goblins.
Characters: Ian was probably the sweetest werewolf ever. He was patient and kind and really cared about Lily. He took an excitement in showing her new things and experiences and tried to keep her safe even at the risk of his own life. Lily was sort of an odd combination of being extremely curious, with a thirst of learning new things and life, as well as closed off and shy. She was a very tamed and had amazing self-discipline for a vampire. She was a sweet kind of heroine in a naïve kind of way. The way they blended together really natural. Their chemistry was tender. Hot but tender. He always wanted to take care of her and it was shown through all of his actions.
Plot: The story moved at a pretty fast pace. Very easily devoured in a couple of hours. Not a lot of things happened but when they did they did it big. I felt like there was enough time to absorb what was going on and not still be left with questions.
Writing: It was told in third person as well as dual points of view which I liked. I love knowing what both characters are feeling and thinking throughout the story.
Curb Appeal: The cover was pretty hot and probably what drew me in in the first place. 😉 I did really like the title as well. My only complaint was that the blurb had me thinking that I was going into a hostile situation. I thought that Ian was not going to be nice for some reason and then I read it and he was like the sweetest guy ever.
Ultimately if you want a sweet, quick, paranormal read I’d say come and give Ian and Lily a chance!
I couldn't have said that better myself! Reading is huge passion of mine. And I'm glad that books not only expand my world view but that they bring the wonderful people who created them into my life. You can always find me with a book and an eclectic mix of music on. I am a HEA junkie extraordinaire! I am a Beta reader, who loves helping authors bring their characters to life. As well as an avid romance reader (every and anything ;D) turned aspiring author.
