Nick O’Hara is a veritable womanizer. The only qualifications that he looks for in a romantic connection is that the person is hot and breathing. Mainly hot. He has no desire for an emotional connection with another person, and that’s the way he lives his life. He has his fabulous wealth and his reputation as a premiere architect, and that’s enough for him.
    Until Scotty James.
Scotty is a graduate student at Columbia University in New York City. She’s broken from traumatic experiences from her years in foster care and homelessness. She has a vulnerability that is intoxicating to Nick, because, deep down, he knows that he is as broken as she.
When Nick pursues Scotty, it seems that she is the only woman who doesn’t want to be with him. At first she’s a challenge, but Nick soon finds himself falling in love for the first time in his life. With a woman who wants nothing to do with him.
Can Scotty overcome her trust issues and fear to let Nick in? Or will she prove to be too broken to trust?

    Fluttering Thoughts:

Worldbuilding: This story is set in New York! Honestly I don’t know what it is but almost every book I have read lately has been set in this great state!
Characters: The main characters in this story were Scotty and Nick. Scotty has endured the worst in life but by some miracle it didn’t make her a horrible, bitter person. She is sweet and caring but pretty much terrified to have feelings for or be in love with the opposite sex. Nick can’t help but sample whatever is in front of him be it men or women. He has never been in love and never wanted to until Scotty walked into his class room. Together they seem like they could have it all but will ghosts from both of their pasts come back to haunt them?
Plot: This story isn’t a traditional forbidden teacher student romance. They didn’t actually spend that much time in the class room and even so he was her professor in her Master degree classes. The biggest story arc that this novel had was the romance between Scotty and Nick and it was sort of refreshing for them not to get physically together till well towards the end of the novel. But unfortunately there were some loose ends at the end of the story in terms of Scotty’s family and honestly the ending kind of came out of left field.
Writing: This story is told in first person points of view of both Scotty and Nick. Honestly the biggest problem I had with the novel was the dialogue and how lots of plot points were repeated over and over again. Such as references to Scotty’s tragedy that she went through, was used as an excuse for every little thing she did or did not do.
Curb Appeal: The cover of the book is interesting. He just really reminds me of Robert Pattinson!!!! I kind of wish it reflected the story more but it’s not the worst cover I’ve seen. The blurb definitely hits the nail on the head for both characters. Although I wish that it had a paragraph from Scotty’s point of view instead being all about Nick and what he thinks.
Ultimately: This story was drawn out more than I would have liked. It did have some interesting plot points that kept me reading but at the same time the dialogue and repeated points worked against my interest. This story does end on a cliffhanger so if you don’t mind a pretty crazy twist of events come and see just how Broken these characters are!!
