Freak. Witch. Crazy. Schizo.
Ember Brycin has been called them all. She’s always known she’s different. No one has ever called her normal, even under the best circumstances. Bizarre and inexplicable things continually happen to her, and having two different colored eyes, strange hair, and an unusual tattoo only contributes to the gossip about her.
When the latest school explosion lands her in a facility for troubled teens, she meets Eli Dragen, who’s hot as hell and darkly mysterious. Their connection is full of passion, danger, and secrets. Secrets that will not only change her life, but what and who she is—leading her down a path she never imagined possible.
Between Light and Dark, Ember finds a world where truth and knowledge are power and no one can be trusted. But her survival depends on finding out the truth about herself. In her pursuit, she is forced between love and destiny and good and evil, even when the differences between them aren’t always clear. At worst, she will incite a war that could destroy both worlds. At best, she will not only lose her heart but her life and everyone she loves. Once the truth is out, however, there will be no going back. And she’ll definitely wish she could.
I never liked Fae books due to the fact that I read a series in high school and was forever turned off by them. To me they just didn’t make any sense whatsoever and were not my cup of tea but damn if this book didn’t change my mind!!! I didn’t know going in to this novel that it had to do with Fairies and the Seelie and Unseelie Court. And I’m so glad I didn’t because if I did then I would have missed out on a great book!!
Ember is different. It’s not just her hair color or eye color that’s peculiar, it’s the fact that she sees things she can’t explain. Not to mention objects explode whenever she gets upset or angry. All she wants to do is to go back to the semi normal life she had before her mother had died but she soon learns that will never be possible again. After making her gym explode at the high school dance, oops, she gets sent to Silverwood. An institution for troubled youth but in laymen’s terms a place where the freaks can have some peace and a place where Ember starts to unravel the mystery surrounding her past as well as her future. I loved Ember’s character! She was so sassy and awesome!! Half of the reason I enjoyed this book so much was because her character was not one to be pushed around and she had a recklessness to her that I found fun to read.
Eli is bad news. From the first time Ember sees him, she can sense not everything about him is as it seems but it doesn’t stop the uncanny attraction that manifests whenever he is around. Ember is shocked to find out that Eli at her new school and even more so as one her team leaders. As they interact more, their attraction grows, and the feelings that things are amiss grow as well. Is Eli just a bad boy that is part of the local Riders of Darkness MC or is his presence much more sinister than Ember ever imagined?
This story was pretty cloak and dagger in the sense that there was a million questions and not enough answers. But when the ending came, it answered a good amount of questions and went out with a bang! It was crazy intense and the story really helped build up the tension and questions until the very end. It was pretty slow and steady pace but with the right amount of drama and odd occurrences to make it interesting.
This novel was told from the first person point of view of Ember. I would have died, died, died if Eli’s point of view was included as well!!! I definitely think it would have added and awesome layer of knowledge and mystery to know what he was thinking and feeling throughout the novel. The cover is crazy cool and what initially caught my eye!
Ultimately this start to the Darkness series has me hooked!! I was totally captivated by the story and couldn’t put the novel down! There are so many more questions that I need answers to and I’m hoping the second book in the series will shed some light onto those mysteries! If you are in the mood for a heroine that is super sassy with unparalleled powers and a sexy dangerous guy that may or may not be a hero, come and find out why there’s Darkness of Light!!!
I couldn't have said that better myself! Reading is huge passion of mine. And I'm glad that books not only expand my world view but that they bring the wonderful people who created them into my life. You can always find me with a book and an eclectic mix of music on. I am a HEA junkie extraordinaire! I am a Beta reader, who loves helping authors bring their characters to life. As well as an avid romance reader (every and anything ;D) turned aspiring author.
