Just released from prison, Jase Hollister has a dark and twisted past. And now, he has only one goal: stay out of trouble. Strawberry Valley, Oklahoma, sounds like the perfect place for him and his two brothers-by-circumstance to settle down and live a nice, simple life. But model citizen isn’t exactly this rugged bachelor’s default setting—especially when it comes to a certain hot-blooded Southern beauty…
Brook Lynn Dillon has always been responsible. Not that it’s done her much good. The down-on-her-luck waitress is broke, single and fun-deprived. Until Jase comes along. He is dangerous, stunningly protective, breathtakingly sexy and as tempting as sin, and the passion sizzling between them is undeniable. But can it melt her resistance? After all, the right kind of trouble might be just what they both need.
Worldbuilding: This story takes place in Strawberry Valley, Oklahoma. This time around I really enjoyed the small town vibe! Some of the minor townspeople sucked a little bit but overall the whole we help our own mentality was present throughout the novel
Characters: The main characters of this novel were Jase and Brook Lynn. I loved, loved, loved Brook Lynn’s quirky humor and the way she cared about everyone she considered a friend and even people she didn’t. She treated everyone the way she would have wanted to be treated and she is probably one of the best heroines I’ve read lately! Jase was the dark alpha man with a tortured past and I loved it! He was pretty hot and cold with Brook Lynn but once he was in, he was all in!! I liked the fact that once he was committed to Brook Lynn/felt any sort of which way about her, he didn’t look at any other girls.
Plot: There were two main story arcs throughout the story; the romance between Jase and Brook Lynn and the suspense of Jase’s past. There was a part that I didn’t really care for that had to do with Jase’s past. His ex came into the picture and I felt like the whole other issues it associated with her could have been just avoided if the author didn’t include his ex.
Writing: This story is told in dual points of view of both Brook Lynn and Jase as well as third person point of view. I wish that the author would have included some past/present point of views of Brook Lynn and Jase’s childhoods and what they went through.
Curb Appeal: The cover is great! It follows the same theme as the rest of the covers in the series and is a lot more playful and bright that the other covers this author normally has on her books! The blurb is spot on. Honestly it is the main reason my interest was piqued but after reading the story I feel like the blurb is only the tip of the iceberg.
Ultimately: I loved this southern novel! It had a sweet but kickass heroine, a tortured brooding alpha hero, and a great engaging story line!! I’m so excited that Beck’s book is next and I can’t wait to find out what type of heroine is going to snag his heart. If you’re in the mood for alpha males and heroines that don’t take no crap, come and check this novel out!!!
I couldn't have said that better myself! Reading is huge passion of mine. And I'm glad that books not only expand my world view but that they bring the wonderful people who created them into my life. You can always find me with a book and an eclectic mix of music on. I am a HEA junkie extraordinaire! I am a Beta reader, who loves helping authors bring their characters to life. As well as an avid romance reader (every and anything ;D) turned aspiring author.
