In small-town Oklahoma, reputation is everything, and Kenna Starr will do anything to overcome hers. The supposed bad girl is determined to walk the straight and narrow, a seemingly impossible task when Tall, Dark and Sexy shows up…
Rich and powerful, Dane Michaelson is every woman’s dream. When he returns to Strawberry Valley after a sixteen-year absence, he is unprepared for the redheaded girl he’s never been able to forget. She’s all woman now—and he’s never wanted anyone more. But to have her, he’ll have to break through her defenses… and surrender his own.
Worldbuilding: This story takes place in the small town of Strawberry Valley, Oklahoma. Everyone was in everyone else’s business and for the first time I didn’t really like the small town vibe all that much. Everyone passed judgment on the heroine and I didn’t like that at all.
Characters: The main characters in this novel were Kenna Starr and Dane Michaelson. Kenna was such a sweet and strong character and I totally loved her! She tried to not let others get her down and strived to be the best person she could be for her and her daughter. Dane was such a polar opposite! Sometimes he seemed pretty douche baggy but he was able to redeem himself in the end by explaining away his actions. He ended up being a sweetheart who wanted nothing but the best for his girls!
Plot: This was a quick little read but for the first time in a long time, while reading a novella, I felt like I got the whole story. There was the regular old romance arc but it did have the twist of being a little bit forbidden! That was a nice little surprise that you learn in the first chapter! I did like the fact that we were introduced to the main characters’ friends, since it setup who the next novels would be about.
Writing: This story is told in third person point of view as well as dual points of view of Kenna and Dane. I loved having both of their points of view but even more so I loved the humor that was injected into the story periodically! Honestly some parts had me doubled over in laughter and those books are the best books to me!!
Curb Appeal: The cover is pretty cool. I like that it’s just a little different than the rest in the series but is uniformly enough that they all mesh well together. The blurb leaves so much out! It’s a nice little snippet of the story but at the same time leaves a good amount of surprises for the readers!!
Ultimately: This was a fantastic quick read that definitely left me interested in the rest of the series! The characters are all different but entirely loveable and I can’t wait to see where this author takes these characters next! If you’re in the mood for some hot city slicker that goes after his small town girl then come and enjoy The One You Want!!
I couldn't have said that better myself! Reading is huge passion of mine. And I'm glad that books not only expand my world view but that they bring the wonderful people who created them into my life. You can always find me with a book and an eclectic mix of music on. I am a HEA junkie extraordinaire! I am a Beta reader, who loves helping authors bring their characters to life. As well as an avid romance reader (every and anything ;D) turned aspiring author.
