I can’t stop falling for my daredevil stepbrother.
Lincoln “Based” Carter is an arrogant a**hole and the most famous extreme sports athlete in the world. His idea of fun involves jumping off of skyscrapers and parachuting between buildings.
Until the day he crash lands through a car windshield and shatters both of his legs.
When I come home from college that summer, I’m surprised by the grunts of my hot-as-hell stepbrother working up a sweat during Physical Therapy. All in front of the camera crew that’s filming a documentary about his recovery.
Part of me wants to run, but I can’t stop staring at his tattoos and his ripped body.
We have a history, but we can’t be together. We can’t even be near each other without a camera around. And yet I spend all day fantasizing about his slightly damp white T-shirt clinging to his muscular frame. His constant cocky teasing is driving me crazy.
We may live the same house, but I’m afraid that if I let him get any closer then we’ll both drop right over the edge.
Worldbuilding: This story takes place in Colorado! The mountains and scenery are talked about quite a bit and I really enjoyed picturing the area.
Characters: The main characters in this story were Lincoln and Aubrie. Aubrie is the good girl. The straight A student that has a promising future after college but also has something missing. The night from long ago is still burned into her mind and is something that she can never forget. While home for summer vacation she comes face to face with the reason, that night all those years ago was unforgettable. Her stepbrother. Can she stay away or will she be swayed with a chance at a happily ever after? Lincoln “Based” Carter will never forget the night his mother and Cliff got married and not because the festivities were amazing but because he met Brie that night. Even after all these years, and that accident that changed his life, one constant remained; his curiosity about Brie. When she comes home for the summer he realizes he will do any and everything to be in Brie’s life even if it is from a distance.
Plot: This was your typical step-brother romance. I love the taboo aspect but I love it even more when the characters find out how much they mean to one another and this certainly happened in this novel! I did like how there was a subplot dealing with how shady Aubrie’s father was.
Writing: This story was told in the first person points of view of both Aubrie and Lincoln. I loved Lincoln’s take on things! His was a pretty great alpha male character that didn’t just sit back and let things happen to him. He went on the offensive and took matters into his own hands.
Curb Appeal: The cover is super-hot!! I love how gritty it is and definitely captures Lincoln’s character. The blurb is right on the money but I would have liked it more if it had included Lincoln’s point of view as well. I was surprised when I started reading that Lincoln was having his say in the story so it would have been nice to know that going in.
Ultimately: I love taboo, step-brother romances! This is another great one to add to the collection that has lovable characters and characters you love to hate! All in all if you are in the mood for some hot and sexy taboo loving that has an interesting subplot attached to it come and find out why Lincoln is Based!!!
I couldn't have said that better myself! Reading is huge passion of mine. And I'm glad that books not only expand my world view but that they bring the wonderful people who created them into my life. You can always find me with a book and an eclectic mix of music on. I am a HEA junkie extraordinaire! I am a Beta reader, who loves helping authors bring their characters to life. As well as an avid romance reader (every and anything ;D) turned aspiring author.
