Boomer Steele is big. He’s bad. He’s the Retribution MC pres. He’s been dealt the worst hand imaginable and bears the scars inside and out. Not that anyone knows it. He’s watched his younger brother and sister hook up and hitch up with the loves of their lives, and now he’s the last Steele standing alone. Maybe he should keep it that way.
Then one feisty honey makes him feel, gets in his grill, pisses him off.
She goes by the name of Rayce. And that’s exactly what she does on her motocross bike when she’s not busy getting her hands dirty with her fellow grease monkeys as the only female mechanic at Stone’s Garage. She’s into fixing bikes, racing hers, and making Boomer’s life a living hell just for the fun of it. Oh, and she hates being treated like a girl.
Sparks flying? That’s an understatement where these two are concerned. Yet when Rayce needs a place to live, and Boomer offers her a room in his house, their unquenchable attraction wins out over antagonism. Sometimes. Rayce’s crappy upbringing makes her think love is for stupid fools asking for heartbreak. She’s not willing to go there for any man. Not even Boomer Steele.
The bigger they are, the harder they fall.
Note to readers: this book addresses the issue of domestic abuse.
WorldBuilding: This story takes place in Mt. Pleasant, in and around the Retribution club house and the Chrome and Steele family business! It’s always great to see the characters in their element and what their day to day lives look like.
Characters: The main characters in this novel were Boomer Steele and Phoebe aka Rayce Layfette. Boomer Steele is the president of the Retribution MC and a formidable force at that. After making it through the most tragic accident possible he deserves to settle down and finally be happy. And in walks Rayce Layfette! She’s young, she’s fun, and she’s got one wicked sassy mouth. After dancing around each other for months can they finally take the plunge and try to make a go of a real honest to goodness relationship? Or will outside forces drive a wedge between the two before they can even get started?
Plot: This novel was slightly different from the others in the series. This story starts where the first story in the Bad Boys of Retribution left off! This novel touched on all the main points that the four spin off books had. It was great to follow the timeline and read how everyone fell into their own relationships. Boomer and Rayce’s relationship was a long time coming but pretty hot and cold. Despite their on again and off again status, I really liked the little plot twist in the end that cemented Rayce just a little more into the Retribution MC.
Writing: This story was told in first person point of view of Boomer! Having, solely, the guy’s point of view is a great change of pace and is something I always look forward to in Rie Warren’s novels!!
Curb Appeal: The cover is so hot!! I love the blue/grey background and the way that the whole series covers are cohesive in the sense that they always represent the hero in an awesome light! The blurb totally describes Boomer’s personality and character to a t, but gives almost nothing on Rayce. I thought she was portrayed really differently in the blurb than how she actually came across in the story. She had some skeletons in her closet that really influenced the way she acted.
Ultimately: This was another great story in the Carolina Bad Boys series!! I’m super excited that this series is continuing!!! I loved the setup for Handsome’s story and it definitely seems like it will be a wild ride!! If you are in the mood for a super sassy and motocross loving heroine and an alpha male hero that will do anything to protect the ones he loves, then come check out CHROME: With a Heart Forged In Steele!!!!
