Wizards. Shifters. Sexy mobsters.
Welcome to Woodland Creek, where one family of wizards gives new meaning to organized crime.
Evie Scarlett is a shy college student. She also happens to be a wizard. She wanted two things: marry Parker Drake and leave Woodland Creek and her crazy family of wizards behind.
But when Hugh Prince, a dangerous crime boss, is mysteriously murdered while awaiting trial for her father’s murder, all eyes turn to the Scarlett family.
The arrival of Hugh’s youngest son, Avalon brings a century-old feud to a dangerous climax. From the Old World of magic, this vengeful wizard is more powerful than anyone in her family, and gives Evie’s older brother a choice: die or give Evie to him.
When Evie’s plans for escape are broken by familial duty, she must find a way to protect those she loves and win back her freedom. What she finds is an ancient power that she never knew she had…and an unmistakable attraction to the man that threatens to ruin everything good in her life.
Worldbuilding: This novella takes place in Woodland Creek, Indiana. It’s a smaller countryside town with deep dark secrets that everyone thinks they know about, but they really have no idea! I liked the idea at this town is full of paranormal beings but at the same time all the townspeople seemed to not really care for the main characters.
Characters: The main characters in this story are actually quite a few! Evie Scarlett was born into a family of wizards and wants nothing more in her life than to be normal and runaway with her one true love, Parker Drake. But being the daughter of a notorious crime boss doesn’t leave much room for normal or many options on how to get the hell out of dodge. Her brother Wesley, his wife Olivia, and their mother all have been trying to keep Scarlett out of the dark family feud that has consumed many lives but unfortunately a new visitor in town has other ideas. Avalon Prince is the son of the other notorious crime boss in town and is now the only Prince left to uphold the family name. With his arrival and his knowledge of dark Old World magic, the feud will come to its climax and touch the Scarlett family in ways it never anticipated.
Plot: This tale really throws you into the deep end right away! The main story arc was the family feud between the Prince’s and the Scarlett’s. This was a lot darker than I was initially anticipating but it ended up working well within the story.
Writing: This story is told third person points of views of Scarlett, her brother Wesley, and his wife Oliva.
Curb Appeal: This cover is what initially made me stop and check out this novella! It was dark and different and I really liked it! The blurb on the other hand was a tad bit misleading in my opinion. The blurb does set the stage pretty well with background information for the reader but I thought Avalon would have some type of redeeming qualities to him but that was far from the truth.
Ultimately: This was a different paranormal tale than I’m used to but I enjoyed the ride. The characters were slightly dark and twisted and reveled a little bit in it. All in all if you are in the mood for a short action packed paranormal read then come check out The Scarlett Legacy!
I couldn't have said that better myself! Reading is huge passion of mine. And I'm glad that books not only expand my world view but that they bring the wonderful people who created them into my life. You can always find me with a book and an eclectic mix of music on. I am a HEA junkie extraordinaire! I am a Beta reader, who loves helping authors bring their characters to life. As well as an avid romance reader (every and anything ;D) turned aspiring author.
