Witches are real. They’re descendants of the Olympian gods. And now, five teen witches gifted with elemental powers must fight to stop a war against the Titans.
When Nicole Cassidy moves from sunny Georgia to gloomy New England, the last thing she expects is to learn that her homeroom is a cover for a secret coven of witches. Even more surprisingly … she’s apparently a witch herself. Despite doubts about her newfound abilities, Nicole is welcomed into this ancient circle of witches and is bedazzled by their powers–and, to her dismay, by Blake–the school’s notorious bad-boy.
Girls who get close to Blake wind up hurt. His girlfriend Danielle will do anything to keep them away, even if she must resort to using dark magic. But the chemistry between Blake and Nicole is undeniable, and despite wanting to protect Nicole from Danielle’s wrath, he finds it impossible to keep his distance.
When the Olympian Comet shoots through the sky for the first time in three thousand years, Nicole, Blake, Danielle, and two others in their homeroom are gifted with mysterious powers over the elements. But the comet has another effect–it opens the portal to the prison world that has contained the Titans for centuries. After an ancient monster escapes and attacks Nicole and Blake, it’s up to them and the others to follow the clues from a cryptic prophecy so that they can save their town … and possibly the world.
Worldbuilding: This story takes place in a small town close to Salem, Massachusetts and opens Nicole up to a world of Greek mythology as well as fantastical circumstances.
Characters: The main character in this novel is Nicole Cassidy. After her father gets a new promotion, Nicole’s family is uprooted from their beloved home in Georgia and plopped down in the middle of a magical prophecy 300 years in the making. As Nicole learns of her true nature and navigates her new high school social hierarchy, she finds herself drawn ever closer to the one boy she should stay away from aka Blake. As strange powers start to manifest in her and her four other classmates, the truth of the prophecy seems to become more and more real. After encountering a terrifying beast with Blake, Nicole and her classmates embark on a journey that will not only test them mentally but push their powers to the breaking point. Can they find the clues and the ultimate prized possession or will the beasts get the best of them before they can even get started?
Plot: This novel was an adventure/treasure hunt/quest all rolled into one! This story turned out to be so much more interesting than I originally thought it would be. I’ve read stories about Gods and Goddesses as well as Greek mythology and I have to say this young adult take on it didn’t disappoint!
Writing: This story is told in first person point of view of Nicole. The writing itself was very straight to the point and made sure to explain all definitions of words readers might not know.
Curb Appeal: The cover of this novel is ridiculously cool! I can totally picture Nicole as the model! The blurb does a good job of setting the stage for the story but at the same time leaves out some pretty good details, so there are some surprises in the story!
Ultimately: I’m really intrigued to see where this new series will take these characters! And how Nicole’s relationship with each of her classmates will evolve and change! All in all, if you are in a mood for a fast paced, young adult paranormal story that brings all the best parts of magic and mythical beings together then come check out The Prophecy of Shadows!!!
I couldn't have said that better myself! Reading is huge passion of mine. And I'm glad that books not only expand my world view but that they bring the wonderful people who created them into my life. You can always find me with a book and an eclectic mix of music on. I am a HEA junkie extraordinaire! I am a Beta reader, who loves helping authors bring their characters to life. As well as an avid romance reader (every and anything ;D) turned aspiring author.
