She wanted to touch him…
A dragon shapeshifter and a computer mastermind, Ryder is sent to guard Glasgow after a devastating Dark attack. But when memories of an explosive affair come back to him – in the flesh – Ryder cannot help but want to reunite with the woman who haunts his dreams. But will protecting her put his own people at risk?
Worldbuilding: It’s always a pleasure to return to the Dark Kings world, full of paranormal elements – shapeshifters, druids, spells&curses – and fantasy elements – fae, dragons, other worlds -. You can never get bored in the Dark Kings world, that’s for sure.
Characters: I loved Kinsey and Ryder, and tbh have been expecting them to be reunited for a while now. They felt like such an obvious mating match, plus they make purrfect sense together, have hot chemistry, and a really fun-to-follow interaction.
I loved how Kinsey could empathize with the Kings (all of them), and I feel this is going to be a great story because she’s thinking things I’ve thought too, giving nuances to the simpler good guys/bad guys dichotomy. I love nuances, and I love Kinsey for picking up on them.
Plot: While on the romantic front there wasn’t much happening in this installment aside the ex-lovers actually meeting, I felt it was a strong moments for them both, hence a fun one for me. In regard to the overall Dark Kings story, I feel we’re preparing for yet another plot twist – and I looking forward to finding out what it is!
Writing: Third person, past tense narrative, his/her POV. Awesome writing, as usual, conveying emotions in such a clear and simple way, without falling into the trap of overstating things.
Curb Appeal: Cool cover, interesting blurb, auto-buy author name – compulsive buy material.
I’ve said this before, and I’ll say it again. I recommend Donna Grant’s Dark Kings series for all lovers of PNR with shapeshifters, particularly dragons, and to lovers of complex worlds and interesting intrigue. Can’t wait to read the next one!
