I make my living as a hustler, and I’m great at it.
I don’t have a single tell and I use that to my advantage to manipulate any situation.
I’ve always known what a person is about to do before they’ve even decided.
That is, until I met Penelope.
I can’t get a read on her, and what’s worse, she doesn’t want anything to do with me.
Which only makes me want her more.
Now I’m in for the hardest hustle of my life.
Somehow I have to convince her she belongs with me.
Good thing I’m always up for a challenge.
Worldbuilding: This story mostly takes place in the Hotel Paragon in Las Vegas!
Characters: The main characters in this novel are Gavin Saint and Penelope Prescott aka Nell. Gavin is a high roller at the poker tables in Vegas who has lost the high. Playing poker or making sure other players aren’t cheating, used to fill him with that special kind of spark. But after winning more money than he could possibly spend in this lifetime and playing game after game, life is starting to seem a little dull. Until he sees the new waitress in the high rollers suit and then his life gets turned upside down. She breaks him down bit by bit and he can’t understand why he is letting her. But a blast from the past puts their new found romance on the skids. Can Gavin get past his old hang ups or will he let Nell slip through his fingers for forever. Nell left her small mining town in Tennessee, to purse her dreams. But her dreams never included being a waitress in the high rollers room with a too short skirt and looking like a glorified whore! But she needs this job and the money if she ever hopes to reach her dreams of being a gymnast in La Magie du Cirque show. But then walks in trouble with a capital T. No matter how hard she tries to push Gavin away he keeps coming back no matter how many times she knees him in the goods! Can Nell open up and finally lean on someone or will his actions make her close up forever?
Plot: The main story arc throughout the novel was the romance between Gavin and Nell. There are underlining plots of both of their pasts that play out as well but those issues really took a back seat to the fireworks Nell and Gavin presented.
Writing: This story is told in first person points of view of Gavin and Nell. I absolutely adored all the supporting characters! They weren’t overwhelmingly present in the novel but they were written so well, that I really hope they get to have their own novels too!
Curb Appeal: I really liked this cover but I felt like after reading the story, the cover didn’t have any connection to the hero or the plot. The blurb is short and to the point but also gives the reader nothing! It doesn’t give you any indication, going in, what this story will be about or how freaking funny it is! I liked that it was a slight mystery but the cover and blurb kind of mislead me into thinking this story was going to be completely different.
Ultimately: This was a fantastically comical novel that I really hope turns into a series!! The characters pull you in and their jokes and wit keep you engaged and asking for more!!! All in all, if you are in the mood for a novel that makes you want to bust a gut, a hero who always gets what he wants, and a heroine that wants nothing to do with said hero, then come check out how much of a Hustler Gavin really is!!!!!
I couldn't have said that better myself! Reading is huge passion of mine. And I'm glad that books not only expand my world view but that they bring the wonderful people who created them into my life. You can always find me with a book and an eclectic mix of music on. I am a HEA junkie extraordinaire! I am a Beta reader, who loves helping authors bring their characters to life. As well as an avid romance reader (every and anything ;D) turned aspiring author.
