Fight to win.
Fight to survive.
Fight for love?
Let’s face it. I’ve got a bad rep with the ladies. I’m a rough-talking, smooth-loving, international playboy—yeah right, whatever—and an X-Ops specialist. Sure, I’m hiding a secret or two. Who isn’t? That’s the least of my concerns when I’m called in to lead an infiltrate-and-retrieve mission.
I’ve got my head in the game—the one firmly attached to my shoulders. An American embassy overseas is under siege, and I’m expecting to rescue the ambassador and his daughter, a stereotypical geeky damsel in distress, Matilda Lawless.
Caught in the crossfire between explosive danger and wild desire, I’m in for the shock of my life.
I’m not looking for any man to save me. I’m pretty damn capable of taking care of myself, thank you very much. I have a successful career and was practically born and bred on a gun range, even if I can’t bake a perfect biscuit to save my life like a good southern woman should.
But there’s just something about that hardcore operative called Justice. He’s haunted and lonely, and I know that pain inside and out. It doesn’t hurt one little bit he’s been blessed with more than his fair share of good looks, plus a body that would make any red-blooded woman drool.
Barricaded inside the embassy, under my father’s shrewd eyes, I intend to have Justice no matter how many times he says he’s not good enough. I see the way he watches me. With dirty, sexy, hungry lust.
Fighting is what Justice does. Now I need him to fight for me.
Worldbuilding: This novel takes place in war torn Sana’a, Yemen as well as hot and sultry Savannah, Georgia. I liked that this novel really stayed in one place for the majority of the story, so the feel of the situation was that much more intense.
Characters: The main characters in this novel are Justice Chase and Matilda Lawless aka Tilly. Justice is the Playboy, the Pretty boy, but first and foremost he is the Soldier who will risk his life for others. Getting the Ambassador out of a war torn country should be a piece of cake until Justice meets the Ambassador’s daughter, Tilly. Justice’s mind is scrambled and not being clear headed in an op can have dire consequences. Can Justice stay away from Tilly for the sake of his fellow men’s lives or will their pull towards one another be too strong to resist? Tilly has always been the good girl, the daddy’s girl, and the girl who did what she was told. Until one man asked too much and she almost lost herself. Finally getting out and living on her own has taught her independence and the drive to do what she wants when she wants, so being told she shouldn’t visit her father in the war zone of Yemen makes her get the first plane ticket out that she can. But not everything goes to plan and an X-Ops team needs to get them out of their horrible situation. The pull between Justice and Tilly is instantaneous and when Tilly wants something she goes after it. Can she wear Justice down until he gives in or will his willpower prove to be more formidable than she originally thought?
Plot: This novel developed really quickly but I liked it! The romance arc between Justice and Tilly grew insanely fast. Pretty much a case of insta-love so if that theme turns you off, then this might not the novel for you. This whole story pretty much spanned a month and a half. But the action arc of the story was thrilling and pretty intense!
Writing: This novel was told in first person point of view of Justice. Out of all the men that Rie Warren has written I feel like Justice was the sweetest and the one guy that was most in touch with his feelings.
Curb Appeal: I liked this cover but if anything it’s just kind of plain in comparison to the first cover of the series. It does relate back to Justice being the “pretty boy” I guess but I suppose I thought it would be more eye-catching like the first cover. The blurb gives the reader the back story on Justice and Tilly’s situation. But leaves the thrilling parts as surprises for the readers!
Ultimately: This was a super speedy plot that fit well in the overall Bad Boys of X-Ops series! I’m super excited to find out Storm and Bane’s stories and how their feud fits into the overall series!! All in all, if you are in the mood for insta love that is filled with crazy action and even hotter sex then come check out Justice!!!!
