Welcome to Evansville, a sleepy Texas town on the verge of a boom.
After growing up in a dying town, with only two restaurants, no movie theater, and no future, waitress Cassidy Simon wants out. For once, luck is on her side when the oil boom comes to South Texas. She’s determined to use it for her advantage, starting up an RV park for the oilfield workers to add to her escape fund. She’s never been out of Texas, and she’s itching for adventure.
Grady McKenna couldn’t get away from his family’s ranch fast enough when he was a teenager, but a tour in the Air Force in the Middle East is enough to convince him there’s no place like home. He’s seen the world, had his adventure. Now he’s ready to contribute to his family’s legacy in Evansville.
Naturally, the woman who draws his attention is the one intent on slipping through his fingers. How can he convince her life with him will be all the adventure she needs?
Worldbuilding: This novel takes place in Evansville, Texas, a small little town that is starting to grow due to an oil boom that is making the town flooded with people. This novel definitely showcased the small town vibe! Everyone knew everybody else and also knew everyone’s business.
Characters: The main characters in this story are Grady McKenna and Cassidy Simon. Grady wanted out of his small town at any cost, so when the opportunity to serve his country came about he jumped at it. But after serving a tour in the Air Force all he wants to do is come home and put roots down. Working his family’s ranch is no small feat since he left them high and dry years ago but he’s willing to put in the hard work if his family will give him the chance. He not only wants his legacy but a good woman to share it with and one in town catches his eye. Even though he is warned away from Cassidy Simon time and time again, he can’t help but want to break down her walls and show her this town is worth staying in. Can he convince her that they could have the most wonderful life here? Or will Cassidy stick to her guns and high tail it out of their small town as soon as she can? Growing up with an alcoholic mother is hard. And it’s even harder having the town thinking that the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. Cassidy is just saving her money and biding her time till she can leave this godforsaken place and all these people behind. But one stands out from the crowd. Grady McKenna just got back from serving and he is looking better than ever but the first rule of ditching this place is staying away from any and everyone who could make her stay. Can Cassidy stay away from Grady long enough to get her money and get the hell out of dodge? Or will he surprise her and make her want to stay in this small town just to stay with him?
Plot: This novel is first and foremost a sweet romance. There were a ton of side stories going on with the secondary characters that was woven in nicely with the main characters.
Writing: This story is told in third person point of view of Grady and Cassidy. This is the first novel in the Lost in a Boom Town series and does not end in a cliffhanger.
Curb Appeal: This cover is so cute! I love the colors and the boots, it really does scream small country town to me! The blurb just sums up their story perfectly! It does leave out all the juicy meaty parts but it gives the reader just enough to be engaged and the curiosity to know more!
Ultimately: This was a sweet read that had a lot more drama from secondary characters than I was anticipating. Grady was the sweetest cowboy and Cassidy was a woman who made a plan to go after her dreams. All in all, if you are in the mood for a hero who is pulling out all the stops to get his woman, and a heroine who just needs a little tender love and care then come check out Waltz Back to Texas!!!
