She’s a lone wolf with a cause.
As a volunteer at a shelter for lone shifters—the same one that rescued her—Makenna Wray has dedicated her life to finding homes for its residents. And when she discovers that a teen in her care is related to Ryan Conner, the broody, handsome-as-sin enforcer of the Phoenix Pack, she’s eager to help connect the two. She just wasn’t prepared to feel a connection of her own.
Lone wolves are loners for a reason—and most of them bad. Or so Ryan assumes until he meets the mysterious Makenna. Quirky and sensual, she seems to enjoy riling him, especially when she refuses to discuss her past. Although there is no mating bond, he’s sure she’s the one. All he has to do is be patient and wait. But when another pack’s sinister Alpha comes sniffing around, threatening Makenna and her shelter, this enforcer is ready to let his wolf off the leash…
Worldbuilding: This novel takes place in and around the lone shifter shelter as well as the Phoenix Pack territory.
Characters: The main characters in this novel are Ryan Conner and Makenna Wray. Ryan Conner is quiet. He’s a respected enforce within the Phoenix Pack but he is also cold and withdrawn. But when he meets Makenna Wray and his cousin Zac, Ryan’s protective instincts come to the forefront. As he spends more and more time with Makenna he realizes how much she is coming to mean to him and he will do any and everything to protect her. Makenna Wray is a protector. She does everything in her power to help the lone shifters in her community to be rehomed and taken care of. But in addition to being loving and caring there’s also something untamable and wild in her. When she researches Ryan Conner nothing could have prepared her for instant connection that brings the two of them together. Can they fight the outside forces who are trying to take over the shelter? Or will their enemies prove to be too many and too powerful to defeat?
Plot: There were a lot of different story arcs within this novel! The main arc was the romance between Ryan and Makenna. Then there was the arc of the twisted Alpha who threatened the lone shifter shelter, as well as the arc of Zac and whether he would accept a place within the Phoenix Pack.
Writing: This story was told in third person points of view of Ryan and Makenna. This is also the fifth book in the Phoenix Pack series, that can be read as a standalone but I wouldn’t recommend doing that. All of the characters build on each other throughout the other novels so to get the most out of the characters and the series I would recommend reading all of the books in order!
Curb Appeal: I’ve always loved this series covers and this one is no exception. The blurb totally captivated me and made me click the request button!!
Ultimately: This was another fantastic novel in the Phoenix Pack series! I forget how great of a writer Suzanne Wright is and then I read one of her amazing stories and then I’m reminded all over again! All in all, if you are in the mood for a shifter romance where the hero comes out of his shell and the heroine doesn’t back down for anyone then come check out Savage Urges!!!
I couldn't have said that better myself! Reading is huge passion of mine. And I'm glad that books not only expand my world view but that they bring the wonderful people who created them into my life. You can always find me with a book and an eclectic mix of music on. I am a HEA junkie extraordinaire! I am a Beta reader, who loves helping authors bring their characters to life. As well as an avid romance reader (every and anything ;D) turned aspiring author.
