As a Part-time PI and fulltime grim reaper, Charley Davidson has asked a lot of questions throughout her life: Why can I see dead people? Who is the hot supernatural entity following me? How do I get gum out of my sister’s hair before she wakes up? But, “How do I trap not one malevolent god, but three?” was never among them. Until now. And since those gods are on earth to kill her daughter, she has little choice but to track them down, trap them, and cast them from this dimension.
There’s just one problem. One of the three stole her heart a very long time ago. Can the Razer, a god of absolute death and destruction, change his omniscient spots, or will his allegiances lie with his brothers?
Those are just a few of the questions Charley must answer, and quick. Add to that a homeless girl running for her life, an innocent man who’s been charged with murder, and a pendant made from god glass that has the entire supernatural world in an uproar, and Charley has her hands full. If she can manage to take care of the whole world-destroying-gods thing, we’re saved. If not, well…
Worldbuilding: What more could one want but the fantastic elements of the world of this series? Ghosts, demons, angels, gods – awsomesauce!
Characters: The snark, the sass, the charisma!! Charley is without a doubt my top fav character ever!! While I liked her during the previous novel – The Dirt on Ninth Grave, also my first Charley Davidson read – in The Curse of Tenth Grave she made a true fan our of me xDDD I’d suspected she would, but man, oh man! Her unflinching love and devotion to those she loves is so kickass; also the way she just jumps into the fray, doing what she feels is the right thing and not flinching in the face of any kind of adversity…I’m in awe of Charley.
Ofc her explosive chemistry with Reyes doesn’t hurt, and his hotness and charisma don’t do any harm either. The complete, consuming way they love each other is totally swoon-worthy and inspiring. Ad their banter is the stuff of dreams, lol!
My love goes out to other characters too, like Cookie, Osh, Ubie, and their whole cast of friends and allies. And ofc Beep, hehe, though she’s so tiny.
Plot: There’s so much delicious tension and over-all intrigue! The mystery/investigative angle concerning the dead-body-less murder was very interesting and kept me guessing up until the very end – I was actually sure it would turn out to be paranormal murder, so to speak! -. Then there’s the whole gods of Uzan thing, and Lucifer, and now another god is added to the list of not-cool-dudes, and just… wow!
Writing: First person, past tense narrative, Charley’s POV. Hands down the awesomest, most fabulously funny voice I’ve ever read. I’m in love with the writing style.
Curb Appeal: Cool cover, hooking blurb, autobuy author name/series. Total instabuy material, not just impulsive buy!
I wholeheartedly recommend The Curse of Tenth Grave to anyone who loves kickass UF with beyond awesome heroines, fans of PI stories with a paranormal element, and fans of ridiculously good writing! Fav series ever right now!
