Mercenary Kate Daniels knows all too well that magic in post-Shift Atlanta is a dangerous business. But nothing she’s faced could have prepared her for this…
Kate and the former Beast Lord Curran Lennart are finally making their relationship official. But there are some steep obstacles standing in the way of their walk to the altar…
Kate’s father, Roland, has kidnapped the demigod Saiman and is slowly bleeding him dry in his never-ending bid for power. A Witch Oracle has predicted that if Kate marries the man she loves, Atlanta will burn and she will lose him forever. And the only person Kate can ask for help is long dead.
The odds are impossible. The future is grim. But Kate Daniels has never been one to play by the rules…
Worldbuilding: The post-shift Atlanta setting was very interesting, but the gem of the novel is for sure the world of the series, so rich in paranormal&fantasy elements, some mythical too – an all-you-can-think-of buffet of deliciousness.
Characters: Kate was irresistible. I loved everything about her, her loyalty and sense of right and wrong, her resilience, bravery, her loving nature, most of all her snark, lol. She was fun, brave, resourceful, yet she was vulnerable too, had her fears, her doubts, her weaknesses. I loved her, I really did.
Her chemistry with Curran was awesomesauce, they made perfect sense together and were super fun and hot to follow.
I loved pretty much all characters, including Roland, might I add.
Plot: The story was an awesome mix of mystery-vibe, adventure, romance, and action. The pace was alert without becoming tiring, and there were a variety of tensions that kept the story nice, tight, and entertaining from the very first page to the last.
Writing: First person, past tense narrative, Kate’s POV. Loved her voice.
Curb Appeal: Cool cover, hooking blurb, from now on instant-buy author name – definite UF impulsive buy material.
This was my first Kate Daniels read, and I had blast. I’d been hoping to get started on this series for ages, but never got around to it. I’m thrilled I jumped in now, and I will keep reading it with utter delight xD
Recommended to lovers of UF, sturdy and diverse worldbuilding, witty voices and fun, active stories. Big like!
