As the son of an international crime lord, Will Rivers only inherited one thing after his father died: trouble. The Pentasus organization deals in kidnapping and murder, and Will wants no part of the power grab that’s tearing leadership apart. But the only way he’ll be able to escape is with some help from his former bodyguard, Hunter Cain, whose sculpted body and brooding looks keep Will awake at night. Somehow, Hunter has resisted the tension between them . . . until, suddenly, he gives in.
As a German intelligence officer working deep undercover, Hunter has a very good reason to keep Will in the dark about his identity and his intentions. Although the sex is hot, Hunter’s true feelings are a growing liability. Now the only way to save Will from his old life is to push him deeper into danger. But when two strong men are each determined to protect the other, the heat isn’t just combustible—it’s a firestorm.
Worldbuilding: I love the world of spies, and operatives of the Tough Love series.
Characters: I loved grumpy-like Hunter since the previous novel in the series, and Will is the perfect hot-geek-looking action hero. I mean, how much better could a combo be? Will was this slippery kind of character, versatile smart guy. Hunter was the rock type, resilient, stubborn. The combo was super intense, had explosive chemistry too. Hawt!
Plot: The slow burn romance had started since the previous novel, in fact. Like I was SO waiting for them to call it what it was. The suspense arc was great, good tension all through, great tempo, kickass action scenes. Winner mix!
Writing: Third person, past tense narrative, his/his POV.
Curb Appeal: Hot cover, hooking blurb, love the author’s style – impulsive buy material for my romantic suspense cravings!
I recommend The Talented Mr. Rivers to lovers of MxM romance and romance in general, to lovers of romantic suspense, and to fans of good, fun reads. Love the series and am looking forward to the next one!
