Since I was a boy, my desire was to serve. To give my vows and life over to the Church, despite the corruption in my soul.
Because of it.
I am a sinner. The embodiment of temptation – or so I’ve been told.
Yet I’ve never laid my hands upon a woman. Never sought the pleasures of the flesh that so many have been tempted by. I never wanted to.
Sky blue eyes and pale blonde hair swallow me up until blue is all that I can see.
She is my weakness. My downfall. My temptation.
My name is Canaan. I am an ordained Roman Catholic Priest.
Her name is Haven, and I’m still not sure if she’s my salvation or my destruction.
This is not a love story.
This is a confession.
Dear Heavenly Father: I have sinned.
And so help me, I may sin again.
Warning – A Beautiful Sin is a forbidden romance that blurs lines between passion and religious faith. Please be warned, the subject matter may be offensive to some readers.
When I first started this novel I didn’t really know what to expect. I knew going in that this was a forbidden romance but it was really much more than that! It was about realizing one’s potential and overcoming the worst of circumstances. These characters went through so much and suffered in silence for many years. Until they met one another and became each other’s salvation.
Canaan has finally achieved all he has ever wanted: being an ordained Roman Catholic priest. But it came at a very, very steep price. Putting his past horrors behind him and finally getting his own parish to preach to has been his dream, but not the parish in his home town. After what happened, he vowed never to go back but when they ask for his help he just can’t refuse. But he could have never known that he would find a new purpose in life there. Meeting Haven throws his world into a technicolor spin. But the feelings he has are not allowed and the more time he spends with her the more he wants. Can Canaan stay true to his vow? Or will the attraction prove too hard to resist?
Haven’s world was turned upside down when her mother died. After enduring a horrible upbringing at the hands of her uncle, her belief in God is nonexistent.
“My soul doesn’t believe in God, nor does my mind, because He abandoned me a long, long time ago. And forgiveness? I’m not sure that’s even a word.”
Going back to Church wasn’t something that was ever in the cards for her until her aunt requested her help. And after seeing the boy from her past, she just can’t stay away. When they were younger Canaan sent Haven on a path that she has always resented him for, that is, until he apologizes to her and she starts seeing him in a different light. But as much as she wants to pursue a relationship with him, she knows he is married to the Church. Can she keep her urges and feelings to herself? Or will she ruin a friendship with the only man she has ever trusted?
There were definitely hard subject matters to read throughout this novel. It made my heart hurt for what these characters had to go through as children but it was so amazing that they didn’t let those horrible actions of others stand in their way of happiness. If domestic and sexual abuse are triggers for you, then it might be a good idea to steer clear of this novel. But if they are not triggers I wholly recommend giving this story a try!
Ultimately, I loved the ride I was taken on with this story! Canaan and Haven were such real characters with their heart wrenching reactions and emotions. I loved Haven’s fierceness and how she grew into a strong and independent woman. Canaan was a gentleman’s gentleman and I loved him as well! All in all, if you are in the mood for a forbidden romance that changes these characters for the better then come check out A Beautiful Sin!!!
