It was the worst blind date in the history of the universe, until Holden Winters swept in and rescued me.
Are you kidding? Holden Winters?
A scion of the notorious Winters family, Holden is gorgeous, wealthy, and brilliant. He dates socialites and pop stars, not computer science grad students more comfortable in a hoodie than couture.
Our night together was a fantasy…and a huge mistake.
I don’t usually steal other guy’s dates. I don’t have to. A look is all it takes, and the women fall over themselves to get to me. Then I saw Josephine, sitting with her dweeb of a date, just waiting for a man who could appreciate her lush curves and sharp brain. When she ghosted on me, I shouldn’t have been so shocked, but women never walk away from me. Josephine thought she could call the shots – she didn’t realize that a Winters man always gets what he wants. And I wanted her.
Worldbuilding: This short story takes place in Atlanta! I wish that the setting was mentioned a bit more since I don’t read too many stories taking place in that city.
Characters: The main characters in this novella are Holden Winters and Josephine Miller. Josephine is kind of in a rut. Being a grad student in Computer Sciences at Georgia Tech, doesn’t leave much time for socializing or having someone special. So accepting a blind date seems like the perfect opportunity to try something different. She would have never had guessed that her world would be turned upside down, not by her date but by a stranger in a club. Holden is tired. Same type of women and same type of club scene. And going out on the weekend doesn’t hold the same appeal as it once did but this time something is different. Seeing Josephine walk into his club made his world stop. Can he convince her that he is more than just a good time? Or will outside forces conspire to keep them apart?
Plot: This was mainly a romance between Holden and Josephine. There was some slight drama thrown in but the story centered on the hero and heroine’s developing feelings.
Writing: This story is told in first person point of view of Holden and Josephine but Josephine’s point of view is featured the majority of the time.
Curb Appeal: I like this cover but I do think it represents Holden so much better than it does Josephine. The blurb gives a little snippet of what is going to happen but doesn’t do justice on how awesome Josephine is!
Ultimately: I wished this short story was a full length novel! It was really well rounded for a novella and I didn’t feel like the story was too short or rushed. All in all, if you are in the mood for a story that gets your blood pumping and makes you fall in love with the characters then come check out The Billionaire’s Secret Heart!!!
I couldn't have said that better myself! Reading is huge passion of mine. And I'm glad that books not only expand my world view but that they bring the wonderful people who created them into my life. You can always find me with a book and an eclectic mix of music on. I am a HEA junkie extraordinaire! I am a Beta reader, who loves helping authors bring their characters to life. As well as an avid romance reader (every and anything ;D) turned aspiring author.
