WARNING: This book contains dark and disturbing themes, strong language and over the top sexiness that may be uncomfortable for some readers!
I couldn’t explain why I always had to lie to people I cared about. Was I trying to protect him? And the sorrow in his eyes when I told him that Kimmy wasn’t his, it shattered my heart. It almost made me recant and tell him the truth.
But I can’t.
RYAN ‘ACE’ WALLACE
I’ve got it all. Every agent wants to sign me. Every model wants to fuck me.
So why am I throwing it all away? Why am I too hungover to go to practice? Yeah, a real ACE.
There’s only one person who can straighten me out. And I just know. As soon as I see her, I’ll be cured.
As soon as I’m inside her, I’ll be healed.
I don’t know for how long I can keep this lie going. My job as a waitress. My studies that I never finished. My daughter. I can’t just keep hoping he’ll never find out.
And especially not now that he’s coming home.
One look into my daughter’s eyes, and he’ll know.
He’ll know the truth.
And he’ll never, ever, forgive me.
Worldbuilding: This novella takes place in Scarlett and Ryan’s little home town, mostly in and around Scarlett’s home.
Characters: The main characters in this story are Scarlett and Ryan aka Ace. Scarlett had a forbidden relationship with Ryan many years ago that resulted in a surprise. But dragging him down with her was the last thing she wanted since he seemed to have such a promising career in the NFL. But when a wedding brings Ryan back to town, everything in Scarlett’s ordered world is threatened to come crashing down. And the spark and sizzle they had growing up is just as prevalent now as it was back then. Can they come together and give their love a second chance? Or will the secrets Scarlett’s been keeping, be too much to bear?
Plot: This is mainly a second chance romance for Ryan and Scarlett with a little surprise thrown in.
Writing: This story is told in first person points of view of Scarlett and Ryan. It is also a standalone and ends in a HEA.
Curb Appeal: I really do like the cover! Even though it doesn’t completely represent the story to me, I do like the colors. The blurb describes pretty much the whole story although the “warning” about dark and disturbing themes doesn’t make any sense to me. There are no dark and disturbing themes in this story at all!
Ultimately: This was a quick second chance romance that I enjoyed! I would have liked to have a more developed story but it still worked as novella. All in all, if you are in the mood for a hero who finally goes after what he wants and heroine who wants nothing more than a second chance then come check out Ace!!!!
I couldn't have said that better myself! Reading is huge passion of mine. And I'm glad that books not only expand my world view but that they bring the wonderful people who created them into my life. You can always find me with a book and an eclectic mix of music on. I am a HEA junkie extraordinaire! I am a Beta reader, who loves helping authors bring their characters to life. As well as an avid romance reader (every and anything ;D) turned aspiring author.
