“We were perfect together. Until we met.”
I can’t help but smile at the words in her letter. She misses me.
In fifth grade, my teacher set us up with pen pals from a different school. Thinking I was a girl, with a name like Misha, the other teacher paired me up with her student, Ryen. My teacher, believing Ryen was a boy like me, agreed.
It didn’t take long for us to figure out the mistake. And in no time at all, we were arguing about everything. The best take-out pizza. Android vs. iPhone. Whether or not Eminem is the greatest rapper ever…
And that was the start. For the next seven years, it was us.
Her letters are always on black paper with silver writing. Sometimes there’s one a week or three in a day, but I need them. She’s the only one who keeps me on track, talks me down, and accepts everything I am.
We only had three rules. No social media, no phone numbers, no pictures. We had a good thing going. Why ruin it?
Until I run across a photo of a girl online. Name’s Ryen, loves Gallo’s pizza, and worships her iPhone. What are the chances?
F*ck it. I need to meet her.
I just don’t expect to hate what I find.
He hasn’t written in three months. Something’s wrong. Did he die? Get arrested? Knowing Misha, neither would be a stretch.
Without him around, I’m going crazy. I need to know someone is listening. It’s my own fault. I should’ve gotten his number or picture or something.
He could be gone forever.
Or right under my nose, and I wouldn’t even know it.
Let me start off by saying that I love, love, love Penelope Douglas!!! I have read practically every novel she has and each one is gold! So, when I saw this novel and read the blurb, I knew I had to get my hands on this novel asap! I have to say that the surface of the novel is fantastic but it’s the layers of the story and the actual feelings of the characters that really sets this novel apart from the rest of the new adult novels out there!!
Ryen Trevarrow has everything going for her, or does she? Is it better to have friends that secretly hate you or be a friendless loser? Ryen will never be a friendless loser again so having friends that secretly hate her is just fine with her. But it’s not like any of those people really matter because when they get the façade, Misha gets the real her. But it seems like her pen pal Misha has better things to do than reply to her messages so now she’s stuck with her frenemies. That is, until Masen Laurent shows up in her school and starts to challenge her queen bee status. But as much as she hates him, she thrives on their rivalry and it seems as though he is addicted to it too. Can this new guy be the distraction she’s looking for? Or will the truth behind his mystery be more than she can bear?
Misha Lare had a good thing going with his band and his best friend and pen pal Ryen. But all good things come to an end and when he is shattered by his loss, he is unable to pick the pieces of his life back up again. Instead he withdraws from any and every one and concocts a halfcocked plan to get back what was stolen from his family. But while he is masterminding his plan, he meets the one person in the world he never thought he would. Meeting her is like a shot of adrenaline to the system but after being in her presence he just can’t stand her. Can he complete his plan and get the hell out of dodge without anyone the wiser? Or will his plan be derailed and his most treasured relationship blow up in his face?
This novel was so much more than a love/hate relationship or a good girl vs the bad boy. The story touched on so many issues facing today’s kids and I loved how relatable it was. Not everybody has a person that can talk them down or be there for each other no matter what and I loved how Misha and Ryen where that for each other. And this novel really showed how perseverance pays off in the end.
Ultimately, this was a perfect standalone novel! The characters jumped off the page and were able to reach inside your chest and pull out a myriad of emotions. Misha and Ryen were the ultimate couple that has you begging for more! All in all, if you are in the mood for a couple that leaves you breathless and makes you laugh out loud then come check out who Punk 57 is!!!!!!!!
I couldn't have said that better myself! Reading is huge passion of mine. And I'm glad that books not only expand my world view but that they bring the wonderful people who created them into my life. You can always find me with a book and an eclectic mix of music on. I am a HEA junkie extraordinaire! I am a Beta reader, who loves helping authors bring their characters to life. As well as an avid romance reader (every and anything ;D) turned aspiring author.
