Love is just a word until someone enters your life and gives it meaning.
But those two letters changed everything.
It was impossible to predict the impact I would have on the life of the only woman I’d ever truly loved. No way to know that I would result in her ruin.
I’d suffer for eternity with the knowledge that it was me who brought devastation to her doorstep.
Though I deserved the anguish I felt, to see her suffer was unacceptable.
I would fix this.
Somehow I would prove to her that I wasn’t the monster she thought I was.
Even if it meant becoming a monster in order to make that happen.
Worldbuilding: This story takes place mainly in Las Vegas as the previous novel but also includes a trip to Italy!
Characters: The main characters in this novel are Marco Valenti and Emily Ross. Emily is hell bent on revenge. Trusting the man who ultimately got her son killed will never happen again and if she never sees his face again it will be too soon. But Marco keeps trying to interfere with her business under the guise that he is in love with her but her heart is too broken to fathom the emotion. The man responsible for her son’s death is a snake and as hard as it will be for her to kill him she will do whatever it takes to bring him down, even if she dies trying. Marco is crushed. Working with the FBI was a mistake and after they failed to keep Emily’s son safe, Marco wants to cut ties with them entirely but they have him between a rock and a hard place. Fortunately, what the FBI don’t know, won’t hurt them and Marco will do everything in his power to get vengeance for the love of his life and the boy he came to think of as his own. But as new information comes to light, Marco is pulled in different directions to save his family. Can he keep Emily safe as she continues her suicide mission, all the while doing everything in his power to secure their future?
Plot: This story started out solely about revenge but evolved into forgiveness, love, perseverance, and setting the ones you love free.
Writing: This novel is told in first person points of view of Marco and Emily. It is also the second novel in the Duplicity Duet and cannot be read as a standalone.
Curb Appeal: I love this cover! It completely represents Emily and just shows how much of a badass that she is. The blurb is entirely from Marco’s point of view and I liked the switch up.
Ultimately: This great ending to the Duplicity Duet! The suspense was killer, the heartache was real, and these characters really have you rooting for them in the end! All in all, if you are in the mood to read a series that brings an unlikely set of people together then come check out Burn!!!
I couldn't have said that better myself! Reading is huge passion of mine. And I'm glad that books not only expand my world view but that they bring the wonderful people who created them into my life. You can always find me with a book and an eclectic mix of music on. I am a HEA junkie extraordinaire! I am a Beta reader, who loves helping authors bring their characters to life. As well as an avid romance reader (every and anything ;D) turned aspiring author.
