Beards, brothers, and bikers! Oh my!
Identical twins Beau and Duane Winston might share the same devastatingly handsome face, but where Beau is outgoing and sociable, Duane is broody and reserved. This is why Jessica James, recent college graduate and perpetual level-headed good girl, has been in naïve and unhealthy infatuation with Beau Winston for most of her life.
His friendly smiles make her tongue-tied and weak-kneed, and she’s never been able to move beyond her childhood crush. Whereas Duane and Jessica have always been adversaries. She can’t stand him, and she’s pretty sure he can’t stand the sight of her…
But after a case of mistaken identity, Jessica finds herself in a massive confusion kerfuffle. Jessica James has spent her whole life paralyzed by the fantasy of Beau and her assumptions of Duane’s disdain; therefore she’s unprepared for the reality that is Duane’s insatiable interest, as well as his hot hands and hot mouth and hotter looks. Not helping Jessica’s muddled mind and good girl sensibilities, Duane seems to have gotten himself in trouble with the local biker gang, the Iron Order.
Certainly, Beau’s magic spell is broken. Yet when Jessica finds herself drawn to the man who was always her adversary, now more dangerous than ever, how much of her level-head heart is she willing to risk?
Worldbuilding: This story takes place in the small town of Green Valley, Tennessee. I really liked the small town feel and the fact that there was a crazy biker gang at the edge of town!
Characters: The main characters in this novel are Jessica James and Duane Winston. Jessica wants to travel the world more than anything and wanderlust is her middle name! But in order to travel she needs money, so that means coming back to her small home town to teach. And coming back to Green Valley means running into her longtime crush, Beau Winston. Only it isn’t Beau that she runs into first, but his twin brother Duane. Which ignites a firestorm of emotions that she isn’t ready to deal with. Can Jessica keep her developing feelings for Duane at bay? Or will she give into temptation and in the process, give up her dreams? Duane is mesmerized by Jessica James. And after she comes back to town, he wants to do everything in his power to convince her to get them a chance. But getting in her way of traveling the world is the last thing he wants to do. Can he figure out a way for both of them to get what they want? Or will he sacrifice his happiness and let her go?
Plot: This story is mainly an accidental romance between Jessica and Duane. But it also does a great job of introducing supporting characters and it got me super intrigued about their stories.
Writing: This novel is written in first person points of view of Jessica and Duane. It is the first story in the Winston Brothers series but each story can be read as a standalone novel.
Curb Appeal: This cover is awesome! It is completely and utterly unique and I’ve never seen anything like it! I love that the rest of the books follow the same theme and I can’t wait to read them! The blurb gives a slight run down on the situation between the main characters. But leaves out a whole bunch of surprises for the reader to find.
Ultimately: I really liked that these characters seemed genuine and didn’t make me want to rip my hair out! I’m super excited to read the other brothers’ stories and I can’t wait to see what type of sassy ladies bring these fellas to their knees!! All in all, if you are in the mood for an utterly devastatingly sweet hero and a heroine who doesn’t apologize for her dreams then come check out Truth or Beard!!!!
