A scarred fighter.
A girl with rules.
One night of unbridled passion.
There are three things you need to know about Elizabeth Bennett: she’s smart as a whip, always in control, and lives by a set of carefully crafted rules. She’s learned the hard way that people you love the most always hurt you in the end.
But then she meets Declan Blay, the new neighbor at her apartment complex.
A tattooed British street fighter, he’s the campus bad boy she’s supposed to avoid, but when he saves her from a frat party gone bad, all her rules about sex and love fly out the window.
She gives him one night of unbridled passion, but he longs for more.
With only a cardboard-thin wall separating their bedrooms, he dreams of possessing the vulnerable girl next door forever.
One night. Two damaged hearts. The passion of a lifetime.
Worldbuilding: This story takes place Raleigh, North Carolina at Whitman University. I really appreciate when authors give an actual setting to the story because it helps set the scene.
Characters: The main characters in this novel are Elizabeth Bennett and Declan Blay. Elizabeth is guarded and with good reason. After getting more than burned by her first love, Elizabeth vows to never fall under anyone’s spell ever again. But her next door neighbor has other plans. Declan Blay is the resident bad boy on her campus and if she steers away from anything, it’s the bad boys. Unfortunately, he’s gotten underneath her skin and is making her feel things she hasn’t felt in a very long time. Can Elizabeth overcome her past before it steals her future? Or will old wounds refuse to heal? Declan is done with women. The only thing he wants to focus on is getting his degree and starting his own gym to teach MMA. But after meeting the beautiful babbler he can’t help but be smitten. Can Declan prove he is more than just his fists? Or will her past rip them apart before they can even get started?
Plot: This is mainly a romance between Elizabeth and Declan, but it also has some crazy twists thrown in that I didn’t see coming!
Writing: This novel is written in first person points of view of Elizabeth and Declan. It is the first novel in the English series and ends in a HEA.
Curb Appeal: I really like this cover! It completely represents the title and I like the look of it. The blurb is what had me one-clicking this story! It gives a good idea on what the story is about but it doesn’t convey how dark Elizabeth’s past is.
Ultimately: I have to say Declan is one of my favorite heroes I have ever read!!! He was this big brawler but also read Jane Austen books, like come on! He’s perfect! All in all, if you are in the mood for a hero who will lay down his life for his girl and a heroine who takes back control of her life then come check out Dirty English!!!!
I couldn't have said that better myself! Reading is huge passion of mine. And I'm glad that books not only expand my world view but that they bring the wonderful people who created them into my life. You can always find me with a book and an eclectic mix of music on. I am a HEA junkie extraordinaire! I am a Beta reader, who loves helping authors bring their characters to life. As well as an avid romance reader (every and anything ;D) turned aspiring author.
