I dig. It’s what I do. I’ll literally use a shovel to answer a question. Some answers, though, have been buried too deep for too long. But I’ll find those, too. And I know where to dig—the Blackwood Estate on the edge of the Mississippi Delta. Garrett Blackwood is the only thing standing between me and the truth. A broken man—one with desires that dance in the darkest part of my soul—he’s either my savior or my enemy. I’ll dig until I find all his secrets. Then I’ll run so he never finds mine. The only problem? He likes it when I run.
Author’s Note: This is a standalone mystery/suspense romance with violence and explicit/intense sex. If you need a trigger warning, then this isn’t the book for you.
If you purchased the book during the first week, Counsellor is included at the end as a bonus. Blackwood is a 67k-word FULL-LENGTH novel that ends at 54%.
Worldbuilding: This story takes place in the Mississippi Delta at the Blackwood Estate.
Characters: The main characters in this novel are Elise Vale and Garrett Blackwood. Elise’s passion is digging. And being a graduate student who is getting her Ph.D. in archaeology gives her more than enough opportunities to dig. But the Blackwood Estate holds more important secrets that she needs to find the answers to. The only thing in her way is the devilishly handsome Garrett Blackwood. But even the rumored, dangerous hermit in town won’t make her give up her mission that easily. Nevertheless, the woods are more treacherous than Elise initially thought and surviving them is proving easier said than done. And who comes to her rescue? None other than the Estate’s owner Mr. Blackwood and after seeing a softer side to Garrett, everything Elise believes in starts to shift. Can Elise confide in Garrett and trust him enough to help her with her task? Or will trusting in this stranger bring not only heartache but possibly her downfall?
Plot: This is a mystery wrapped up in ghosts and heartache. There is a romance between Elise and Garrett but it does fight for center stage with the suspense aspect of the story!
Writing: This novel is told in first person point of view of Elise. It is also a standalone that ends in a HEA.
Curb Appeal: I love the cover! Garrett looks amazing and I like how it also kind of sets the scene! The blurb is short and mysterious but gives just enough information to hook you!
Ultimately: I really enjoyed this southern mystery! Not to mention the off the charts chemistry between Elise and Garrett. I just wished this story was a little bit longer but I enjoyed it regardless! All in all, if you are in the mood for an enigmatic hero whose tastes runs a little darker and a heroine whose soul calls to his then come check out Blackwood!!!!!
I couldn't have said that better myself! Reading is huge passion of mine. And I'm glad that books not only expand my world view but that they bring the wonderful people who created them into my life. You can always find me with a book and an eclectic mix of music on. I am a HEA junkie extraordinaire! I am a Beta reader, who loves helping authors bring their characters to life. As well as an avid romance reader (every and anything ;D) turned aspiring author.
