Most people called it a cult. But for twenty years, Josh and Caleb called it home.
In Paradise, there is no television. No fast food. Just long hours of farm work and prayer on a dusty Wyoming ranch, and nights in a crowded bunkhouse. The boys of the Compound are kept far from the sinners’ world.
But Joshua doesn’t need temptation to sin. His whole life, he’s wanted his best friend, Caleb. By day they work side by side. Only when Josh closes his eyes at night can they be together the way he craves.
It can never be. And his survival depends on keeping his terrible desires secret.
Caleb has always protected Josh against the worst of the bullying at the Compound. But he has secrets of his own, and a plan to get away — until it all backfires.
Josh finds himself homeless in a world that doesn’t want him. Can Caleb find him in time? And will they find a place of safety, where he can admit to Josh how he really feels?
Warning: Contains a hot male/male romance, copious instances of taking the Lord’s name in vain, and love against the kitchen counter. This book was previously released under the title: In Front of God & Everyone.
Worldbuilding: This story takes place in a couple of different places. It starts at the cult named Paradise, in Wyoming and then travels to Massachusetts.
Characters: The main characters in this novel are Joshua Royce and Caleb Smith. Joshua has a secret. He’s been in love with his best friend all of his life. Unfortunately, in Paradise, you don’t get to choose your spouse let alone come out to everyone as gay. When Joshua gets kicked out of Paradise he is joined by none other than his best friend. As they navigate the new-found world they were thrown into, feelings arise and secrets are found out. Can Joshua keep the burden on his secret love to himself? Or will Caleb find out and thrown their fragile friendship into a tailspin? Caleb wants out. He has saved and planned for this moment but when his best friend gets thrown out of the ranch, his plans are thrown into chaos. The only thing that matters is getting to Joshua and fast. Can he save Joshua and himself before it’s too late? Or will Paradise never let him leave?
Plot: This is mainly a romance between Joshua and Caleb but it also sheds light on the consequences of being in a cult as well as the consequences of leaving one.
Writing: This novel is written in first person points of view of Josh and Caleb. It is the first novel in the duet and ends in a HEA. It was originally published under the name In Front of God and Everyone and under the pseudonym Nealy Wagner.
Curb Appeal: I love this cover so much! It’s different and I definitely think it represents the story. The blurb completely drew me in! It gives great background on what Josh and Caleb went through and what is to come of their journey.
Ultimately: I really loved this story! The only complaint I have is that the dialogue and wording in general was a little less polished than what I am used to with Sarina Bowen but I still really enjoyed the characters and story line! All in all, if you are in the mood for a hero who wants to keep his man safe and sound and another hero who just wants to take care of everybody then come check out Goodbye Paradise!!!!
I couldn't have said that better myself! Reading is huge passion of mine. And I'm glad that books not only expand my world view but that they bring the wonderful people who created them into my life. You can always find me with a book and an eclectic mix of music on. I am a HEA junkie extraordinaire! I am a Beta reader, who loves helping authors bring their characters to life. As well as an avid romance reader (every and anything ;D) turned aspiring author.
