After being held hostage during a robbery at the local convenience store, seventeen-year-old Edie finds her attitude about life shattered. Unwilling to put up with the snobbery and bullying at her private school, she enrolls at the local public high school, crossing paths with John. The boy who risked his life to save hers.
While Edie’s beginning to run wild, however, John’s just starting to settle down. After years of partying and dealing drugs with his older brother, he’s going straight—getting to class on time, and thinking about the future.
An unlikely bond grows between the two as John keeps Edie out of trouble and helps her broaden her horizons. But when he helps her out with another first—losing her virginity—their friendship gets complicated.
Meanwhile, Edie and John are pulled back into the dangerous world they narrowly escaped. They were lucky to survive the first time, but this time they have more to lose—each other.
Worldbuilding: This story takes place in a small northern California town.
Characters: The main characters in this novel are Edie Millen and John Cole. Edie is having the worst time in her life. After being held hostage at gun point everything in life seems unimportant in comparison. And the only one that seems to get her anymore is the boy that saved her life, John. Having a friend in a new school is worth its weight in gold and having someone you can come to trust is priceless. John makes Edie care about life again and she makes him see that he can do and be anyone he wants to be. Can these two broken souls help mend each other? Or will others tried to tear them apart before they can even get started?
Plot: This is a journey of first love and coming face to face with your own morality before you’re ready. It’s thought provoking, an emotional roller coaster, and a beautiful story of trust.
Writing: This novel is written in first person point of view of Edie. It is a standalone new adult novel.
Curb Appeal: I love this cover! It represents the story amazingly well and it isn’t your run of the mill new adult cover! The blurb pretty much tells everything that happens in the story but does not tell you how much heart this story has and how real and down to earth these characters are.
Ultimately: When I started this novel, I wasn’t totally convinced that I would like it, but after a couple of chapters Edie and John won me over! This story is raw and realistic and honestly is probably one of my favorite novels I’ve read this year! All in all, if you are in the mood to experience what it feels like to fall in love for the first time then come check out Trust!!!
