“I tried to play a game. I tried to wield deceit as perfectly as the Hawks. But when I thought I was winning, I wasn’t. Jethro isn’t what he seems—he’s the master of duplicity. However, I refuse to let him annihilate me further.”
Nila Weaver has grown from naïve seamstress to full-blown fighter. Every humdrum object is her arsenal, and sex…sex is her greatest weapon of all.
She’s paid the First Debt. She’ll probably pay more.
But she has no intention of letting the Hawks win.
Jethro Hawk has found more than a worthy adversary in Nila—he’s found the woman who could destroy him. There’s a fine line between hatred and love, and an even finer path between fear and respect.
The fate of his house rests on his shoulders, but no matter how much ice lives inside his heart, Nila flames too bright to be extinguished.
Worldbuilding: This story takes place in and around the Hawksridge Hall.
Characters: The main characters in this novel are Jethro Hawk and Nila Weaver. As more things come to light about Jethro’s past, the more confusing Nila’s world becomes. But the more she finds out, the more power she starts to hold. Unfortunately, the debts are mounting but so are the feelings, the feelings that Nila should never feel for the enemy. The feelings and the threats are nothing compared to the horrifying realization that even if she can get Jethro to choose her over his family, she still has to go through with the Second Debt which is a hundred times worse than the First. Can Nila forgive Jethro for his part in the Second Debt all the while turning him against his family? Or will this debt prove to be her undoing and push her that much closer to giving up?
Plot: This is a dark romance between Nila and Jethro. The reason Nila is going through this horrible ordeal is still being explained throughout this story.
Writing: This novel is written in first person points of view of Nila and Jethro. It is the third novel in the Indebted series and cannot be read as a standalone. It also ends in a killer cliffhanger as do the subsequent books in the rest of the series until the final novel.
Curb Appeal: I really like all these covers in this series!! They’re so understated and classy, they really make the novels standout! The blurb doesn’t give much information about what is going to happen but it does give clue on how the tides are turning.
Ultimately: Each novel in this series really makes you want to devour its entirety in one setting! The more I get to know Jethro the more I love him and the more I feel sorry for him. This novel breaks your heart a little but makes you beg for more! All in all, if you can’t get enough of Jethro and Nila then come check the Second Debt!!!!!
I couldn't have said that better myself! Reading is huge passion of mine. And I'm glad that books not only expand my world view but that they bring the wonderful people who created them into my life. You can always find me with a book and an eclectic mix of music on. I am a HEA junkie extraordinaire! I am a Beta reader, who loves helping authors bring their characters to life. As well as an avid romance reader (every and anything ;D) turned aspiring author.
