A simple country girl at the mercy of a cold-hearted thief with more secrets than scruples.
As a widow, Jessamine gained the freedom she’d always desired. Her late husband left her his sole possession, an inn on the north road to Scotland. When a trio of gentlemen appear at the doorstep of her isolated inn during a snowstorm, Jess can’t help the curiosity coursing through her veins. Eavesdropping on their conversation only entangles her in their web of deception.
To the petite innkeeper, Edmund is a wealthy thief. Allowing her to think what she will, he decides to use her to his advantage. That is until she hides the stolen jewels and refuses to reveal their location. Never cowed by a challenge, Edmund issues an ultimatum: return the jewels or repay the debt with her body.
Worldbuilding: This story takes place at the Hart and Hare Inn, north of London.
Characters: The main characters in this novella are Jessamine aka Jess and Edmund. Jess is what most would call a country girl, running her inn day in and day out. But it is her own little corner of the world and she enjoys the peace and quiet, that is until three handsome rogues need a place to stay. After they walk into her home, her life is turned upside down! Edmund is the leader and plays the part of tall, dark, and dangerous all too well. In an effort to find more information about the men staying at her inn, she eavesdrops and finds herself in the middle of a thieving plot! Can Jess keep her inn and herself safe and out the of the clutches of Edmund? Or will Edmund not only capture Jess but her heart as well?
Plot: This is mainly a romance between Jess and Edmund with a little thievery thrown in!
Writing: This novella is written in third person points of view of Jess and Edmund. It is the first novella in the Thieves of Winter Trilogy.
Curb Appeal: I love the cover, it’s so pretty!! The blurb is pretty short but gives a good rundown on what the situation is!
Ultimately: This story didn’t really seem like a historical romance to me. The talking seemed more modern and I just didn’t feel like I was transported back in time. All in all, if you are in the mood for a hero who never saw his girl coming, and a heroine who found passion with a scoundrel then come check out Jewel of Winter!!!
I couldn't have said that better myself! Reading is huge passion of mine. And I'm glad that books not only expand my world view but that they bring the wonderful people who created them into my life. You can always find me with a book and an eclectic mix of music on. I am a HEA junkie extraordinaire! I am a Beta reader, who loves helping authors bring their characters to life. As well as an avid romance reader (every and anything ;D) turned aspiring author.
