They’re rebels, scoundrels, and blackguards—dark, dashing men on the wrong side of the law. But for the women who love them, a hint of danger only makes the heart beat faster…
Dorian Blackwell, the Blackheart of Ben More, is a ruthless villain. Scarred and hard-hearted, Dorian is one of London’s wealthiest, most influential men who will stop at nothing to wreak vengeance on those who’ve wronged him…and will fight to the death to seize what he wants. The lovely, still innocent widow Farah Leigh Mackenzie is no exception—and soon Dorian whisks the beautiful lass away to his sanctuary in the wild Highlands…
But Farah is no one’s puppet. She possesses a powerful secret—one that threatens her very life. When being held captive by Dorian proves to be the only way to keep Farah safe from those who would see her dead, Dorian makes Farah a scandalous proposition: marry him for protection in exchange for using her secret to help him exact revenge on his enemies. But what the Blackheart of Ben More never could have imagined is that Farah has terms of her own, igniting a tempestuous desire that consumes them both. Could it be that the woman he captured is the only one who can touch the black heart he’d long thought dead?
Worldbuilding: This story takes place in London and Ben More Castle of Scotland in 1872.
Characters: The main characters in this novel are Farah Leigh Mackenzie and Dorian Blackwell. Farah Leigh isn’t what anyone would call mousy. She’s a force to be reckoned with when you get her going and that’s just what Dorian Blackwell, the notorious highwayman, wants. After kidnapping Farah, Dorian’s realized he has bitten off a little more than he can chew but debts from the past must be repaid and Dorian has a proposition for Farah. Will Farah accept Dorian and help put his plan for revenge in motion? Or will demons from the past wreak havoc on the present and ruin their future?
Plot: This is novel has a romance arc between Dorian and Farah as well as a thriller/suspense arc for the whole story!
Writing: This novel is written in third person points of view of Farah and Dorian. It is the first novel in the Victorian Rebels series.
Curb Appeal: I love this cover! It’s so bright and I normally do not like the color yellow but it really works here! The blurb definitely gives good background on the situation and gives enough to intrigue the reader as to what is to come.
Ultimately: This was my first novel by Kerrigan Byrne and I have to say she hit it out of the park!! I love historical romances but I’m extremely picky on what elements make a good historical romance and she honestly hit all the boxes!!! First and foremost, I want to be transported back in time and I want to fall in love with the characters! I felt like I was in the 1800s and I loved every whirlwind moment with Dorian and Farah!! All in all, if you are in the mood for a sizzling connection with a heartfelt story then come check out The Highwayman!!!!!!
I couldn't have said that better myself! Reading is huge passion of mine. And I'm glad that books not only expand my world view but that they bring the wonderful people who created them into my life. You can always find me with a book and an eclectic mix of music on. I am a HEA junkie extraordinaire! I am a Beta reader, who loves helping authors bring their characters to life. As well as an avid romance reader (every and anything ;D) turned aspiring author.
