He’s one of the last of a powerful but vanishing bloodline …
Grigori Barinov is the eldest in an ancient line of dragon shifters and the guardian of his family’s lands and fortune. Sworn to protect their history and magic, he won’t rest until he neutralizes any threat to their existence. When he discovers an ancient manuscript that exposes his family and their dragon lineage has fallen into a mortal woman’s hands, he knows he must get the book back by any means necessary. If that means seducing a nosy American woman with an intoxicating scent, he is more than willing to carry her off to his palatial home deep in the heart of Russia.
She’s the one woman who could expose him to the world…
Madelyn Haynes has never fit in. As an adopted child she grew up in a loving home but never felt as though she belonged. Plagued by mysterious dreams she’s had of a silver scaled beast ever since she was a little girl, she is convinced dragons are real. While in Russia working on her PhD in mythology in order to escape the ridicule from fellow professors, she unexpectedly crosses paths with the sexy and dominating Grigori, and after just one night with the man whose eyes seem to burn, she starts to change inside. Isolated in the Russian wilderness Grigori calls home, Madelyn can’t help but fall under his sensual spell, yet something deep inside her calls out that she can’t trust him. She has to show the world dragons are real to salvage academic reputation, even if it means costing her the heart of the dragon she’s falling in love with.
Worldbuilding: This story takes place in Moscow, Russia and the Fire Hills; in and around Grigori’s home.
Characters: The main characters in this novel are Grigori Barinov and Madelyn Haynes. Grigori has lived for thousands of years and in all that time has never had someone to call his own. But caring for his family’s lands and legacy is a fulltime job and he doesn’t need any beautiful distractions getting in his way. Unfortunately for Grigori fate has other plans and throws a nosy American professor in his path. Madelyn has come a long way to prove her theories right. Working on her PhD to prove that dragons are real leads to a whirlwind adventure she never thought possible. Can Grigori put Madelyn under his spell and convince her that there is something special between them? Or will Grigori’s enemies slither out from the darkness and take away all he has to live for?
Plot: This is mainly a romance between Grigori and Madelyn, with an enemy or two thrown in too.
Writing: This novel is written in third person points of view of Grigori and Madelyn.
It is the first novel in the Brothers of Ash and Fire series.
Curb Appeal: I absolutely adore this cover! I love the colors and I love that the human and shifter counterparts are on display!!! The blurb gives great background on the characters and a little information on what is to come!
Ultimately: I love Lauren Smith’s Historical Romance and she obviously can do it all!! This take on dragon shifters is awesome and I can’t wait to read all the brother’s stories!! All in all, if you are in the mood for a hero who wants to give his girl the world and a heroine who finally finds her place in the world then come check out Grigori!!!!
I couldn't have said that better myself! Reading is huge passion of mine. And I'm glad that books not only expand my world view but that they bring the wonderful people who created them into my life. You can always find me with a book and an eclectic mix of music on. I am a HEA junkie extraordinaire! I am a Beta reader, who loves helping authors bring their characters to life. As well as an avid romance reader (every and anything ;D) turned aspiring author.
