Hot Asset (21 Wall Street #1)
by Lauren Layne
Expected publication: May 22nd 2018 by Montlake Romance
Genre: Adult Contemporary Romance
In a Flutter: Hot and fun
Ian Bradley is the definition of a Wall Street hotshot: seven-figure salary, designer suits, and a corner office. His drive off the floor is just as potent. Every woman who knows him has felt the rush. But now he’s met his match in Lara McKenzie—a woman with the power to bring Ian to his knees.
An ambitious, whip-smart daughter of FBI agents, Lara is a rising star in fighting white-collar crime. Her latest case—the investigation of Ian Bradley for insider trading—could make her career. She knows a scoundrel when she sees one. Ian fits the bill: a cocky, ridiculously handsome bad boy with a slick swagger.
She’ll do anything to prove he’s guilty. He’ll do anything to prove he’s not. But it’s only a matter of time before their fierce battle of wits gets oh so hot and personal. Now, taking down Ian has become more than business for Lara. It’s become a pleasure—and there’s more at risk than she ever dreamed.
Worldbuilding: New York setting, big bucks world of Wall Street finance.
Characters: Ian is very driven and successful. He came from nothing and achieved a lot, so big like there. He’s also kind of fucked up emotionally, so layered juicy stuff. I don’t generally like billionaire playboy stories because I dislike cocky know-it-all peeps, but this is a self-made one so I liked him.
Uuuuu, I love Lara!! Layered, delicious, edgy chick. Ambitious but with a heart, and very focused on doing the right thing – big like. She’s a bit stuck on rules and regulations, but it made her do the right thing even when doing the opposite would benefit her personally.
Plot: Very tense enemies to lovers sort of scenario, with a billionaire playboy spin too, and the chick investigating the guy to boot. Soo much delicious tension and much chemistry hotness!
Writing: First person, past tense narrative, his/her POV. Love the confident humor-filled witty voices and the snappy banter was delish.
Curb Appeal: Cool cover, hooking blurb – impulsive buy for my admittedly rarer Contemporary Romance moods.
I recommend Hot Asset to fans of Contemporary Romance with billionaire playboy and enemies to lovers mixes, plus hot chemistry, and awesome banter.
