Guest Post: The BIRTH of Malachi by S.K. Whiteside

About the Author:

S.K. Whiteside is a writer of Paranormal/Fantasy, Horror, and Suspense. As a full time Mental Health Counselor, she started writing in Academia but decided writing about things on the “other side of the veil” was a lot more interesting. Living in the Paranormal capital of the world makes it fairly easy for her to come up with characters, many of which are based off of real personas in her life that are so vibrant they can’t help but carry over into her writing.

S.K. Whiteside is a Fiction Weaver and World Creator. It just so happens that the worlds she creates are often filled with things that go bump in the night. A New Orleanian at heart, the Deep South often serves as the setting for her Paranormal Tales of the unknown. Her Charismatic characters and snarky banter often derive from the various personas of those she loves and the voices in her head. When not writing she spends her time telling everyone else in the world that they are completely bonkers but yet she often channels Napoleon Bonaparte. During her down time she pokes at the massive giant whom holds her captive and runs from two monsters that she swears are out to kill her. Some people call them her husband and children but she knows the truth…

I thought for this guest post I would let you all get to know how I came up with the character Malachi.

Truthfully, the character you know and love was an accident.

Malachi was ORIGINALLY a bad guy in my series “Guardians of the Gate.” I had him all planned out to be a traitor and have my main character kill him off in the very first book of a seven book series. I’d planned this because I wasn’t exactly “feeling” him. As he stood, snide and angry, he only served a purpose temporarily. It was when my son’s Tae Kwon Do instructor approached me that Malachi began to reshape.

I was sitting at my son’s Martial Arts class when his instructor joked around about me making him into a character. Sure, people say that to me a lot and I seldom do it (that’s my story and I am sticking to it) but this guy is a HOOT and a HALF. Young, single, good look, arrogant, BUT STILL loveable, I thought his personality would work GREAT for Malachi. Unfortunately both my Critique Partner and Publisher agreed and told me I could no longer kill him off and that his character was good enough to stand alone. So Malachi went from being killed off in book one to being the second major character in the series. When my proposal for Morbid Seraphic received the green light I knew the featured story had to be of him and how he became the snarky yet loveable person he is in my current series.
However, if you ask Malachi about Malachi, Malachi would say that Malachi is the greatest thing since sliced bread. Malachi thinks that Malachi is super awesome and Malachi is never wrong. We say? Malachi is being an arrogant ass because Malachi is insecure and doesn’t really want people to know the real him. Kicked out of Heaven by his brethren for a foolish mistake, all Malachi wants to do is earn his way back in. Malachi is often being judged and labeled as an arrogant womanizing ass that’s beyond narcissistic and let’s face, that’s what he wants you to think. What Malachi doesn’t want you to know is that there is more to his story, a side he doesn’t want to tell because it brings back the still fresh memories of a serious betrayal that has left him scarred emotionally as well as physically.

A while back I did an interview with Malachi and now is a good a time as any for you to get to know him.

In his own words:
Good or Bad? “Doesn’t matter, in the end they all turn on you anyway”
Love? “It’s overrated and makes you WEAK and STUPID”
Favorite Part about being a Guardian? “Kicking Ass and taking names…and doing so WITH permission from the Creator.”
Worst Part about being a Guardian? “Next question”
If you could change one thing about yourself what would it be? “Next question”
If the world ended tomorrow I would be….Praying for your souls.
