Character Interview: Audrey from Audrey’s Guide to Witchcraft
by Jody Gehrman

Audrey, the heroine of Audrey’s Guide to Witchcraft is a culinary genius and a seventeen-year-old witch-in-training. She’s snarky, fierce, loyal and (like most of us) a little insecure. Livia, the world famous blogger of Romania, suggested I sit down with Audrey and ask her a few questions. What follows is my top-secret interview with the young witch.

Jody: So, Audrey, tell us about how you discovered you had magical powers.

Audrey: It’s a pretty messed up story. First, my mom totally went missing. Then Sadie, this weird chick claiming to be my cousin showed up in a rusty van packed with exotic pets. The next thing I know, I’m able to hurt people when I get angry, spooky messages start appearing everywhere I turn, and somehow I bake a chocolate cake that prompts this seriously steamy encounter with a guy I met, Julian. Oh, and I have to take on this incredibly powerful necromancer in order to save my mom. You know, just your average coming-of-age-as-a-witch tale, I guess.

Jody: What sort of stuff do you like to do?

Audrey: I really dig chemistry. It’s my favorite subject in school. I also love to bake. It relaxes me. Lately, learning how to use my magical powers takes up most of my time, but luckily being an Alchematrix uses the skills I’ve developed both in Chemistry and in the kitchen.

Jody: Who’s your best friend and why?

Audrey: Her name’s Bridget. We’ve been besties since junior high. She’s kind of sheltered and sometimes a little timid, but she’s also incredibly loyal and fun to hang out with. She loves reading fantasy and making up new words. We often bake together. She’s actually the one who gave me that recipe for the infamous cake that led to my extremely hot exchange with Julian. Hmm…I should really ask her about that. Oh, and I suspect her sister’s kind of a zombie. Okay, that sounds weird, but if you read my story you’ll understand what I mean.
