“We were prisoners of forbidden love, just like Romeo and Juliet but without the poetic, old English double speak and Italian marble balconies.”
A coal miner’s son, Kellan Braddock always knew he’d follow in his late dad’s steel toed boots. He also always knew that he’d never love anyone as much he loved Rylan Merritt. But sometimes love isn’t enough.
Seven years ago, Rylan Merritt left Bluefield Ridge with her heart in tatters. Now she’s back. And Kellan Braddock, the boy from the wrong side of the tracks, the boy who she loved beyond anything has grown into a man. Will she risk her heart again?

    Fluttering Thoughts:

Worldbuilding: This story takes place in the small mining town of Bluefield Ridge.
Characters: The main characters in this novel are Rylan Merritt and Kellan Braddock. Rylan and Kellan were never supposed to be together. Her being on the rich side of the tracks and him being on the poor side, made their relationship forbidden, at least in her father’s eyes. But that never matter to them until one night where their views of the world and love changed forever. Seven years later both are grown up and wiser but who says first loves fade? Meeting again is like being right back in high school but this time Kellan is not letting his girl go. Can Kellan convince Rylan that she’s the only girl for him? Or will past enemies, old ex’s, and grudges wreck everything they hold dear?
Plot: This is a second chance love story with the cliché poor boy and rich girl concept but I loved it! I loved reading the flashbacks to the past and what kind of people they grew up to be! This was a pretty quick read that didn’t have many twist or turns.
Writing: This novel is told in first person points of view of Rylan and Kellan. This can be read as a standalone novel but it is the first in the Bluefield Bad Boys series.
Curb Appeal: I liked this cover and the title I just don’t feel like they really represent the story that well. The blurb gave a good summary of the story but left out some good juicy bits for the reader to find!
Ultimately: This was a good start to the new Bluefield Bad Boys series! I’m excited to read what women Kellan’s best friends will find love with and if Kellan and Rylan will have cameos in those stories! All in all, if you are in the mood for high school sweethearts who come back together again then come check out Dirty Shame!!!
